His goal was to get member nations to live of to the commitments they made for expenditures on defense. With a couple of exceptions... he got that done which made NATO STRONGER.

Members of Congress call on Biden administration to facilitate the transfer of fighter jets to Ukraine

    From CNN's Chandelis Duster

Texas Rep. Michael McCaul, a Republican and ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Sunday called for the transfer of fighter jets to Poland after a plea from Ukrainian President Zelensky for Western countries to send fighter aircraft into his country.

“I strongly urged the Secretary of State yesterday to complete this transaction. You know, the Ukrainians can fly Russian MiGs. But then Poland wants a back order, and that may be possibly F-16s,” McCaul, who is in Poland, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.”

“We're not going to put our troops in there, but you know what we can help the Ukrainian people win this war … I think the will of the Ukrainian people will basically beat the will of the Russian troops. The Russian troops are not into this. But the Ukrainians are. And if we can arm them to defend themselves, that's how we beat the Russians.”
A White House spokesperson confirmed to CNN on Saturday that the US is working with Poland on the possibility of Poland providing fighter jets to Ukraine along with consulting with other allies.

More on this: Following a Zoom call with Ukrainian leader President Volodymyr Zelensky, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer called on the Biden administration to facilitate the transfer of “desperately-needed” aircraft to Ukraine.

At a Sunday press briefing, Schumer stressed that Zelensky is in short supply of aircraft and that several Eastern European countries have Soviet-made jets which the Ukrainian Air Force pilots know how to operate.

“Today I’m announcing the push for the U.S. administration to explore all feasible options to transfer these desperately needed aircraft to Ukraine,” Schumer said. “We are asking our administration to do everything they can to facilitate the transfer of planes from Eastern Europe to Ukraine.”

This is looking increasingly likely, isn't it? I just hope that extra planes can make a difference. Russian anti-aircraft systems and air-to-air threats remain an issue.

As I understand the plan, it's Poland's MiG 29's to Ukraine, with US aircraft to Poland as backfill. No details on type.

Russia detains at least 4,357 people on Sunday during protests, says independent monitoring group

    From CNN Staff

At least 4,357 people have been detained during protests in Russia on Sunday, OVD-Info, an independent monitoring group that tracks detentions in Russia reports.

People have been detained in 56 cities according to OVD-Info.

CNN cannot independently verify these numbers.

    Live updates: https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-putin-news-03-06-22/index.html

How anyone living in a western country could support a regime that does this to people for simply gathering in protest is beyond me.

What do you need to understand? Some people just try to profit from some else's misery. Get rid of old MiG29's and replace them with the new ones. Anyway, giving combat jets to Ukraine is just waste of the time. Those fighter jets would end up being captured or destroyed.

Biden should be reopening public lands for drilling, starting the pipeline back up, cutting taxes on oil from public lands and encouraging fracking so we can supply ourselves and Europe with oil and shut down Putin's cash cow oil industry. But increasing US oil production flies in the face of the radical, tree hugging, GoreBull Warming, crazy environmentalist fringe folks that control the Democratic Party.

There is a lot of potential for drilling without reopening public lands.
The pipeline would make -zero- difference.
Fracking is expensive and the oil industry, like OPEC, has purposely limited supply in order to keep prices up.

You have to bear in mind that we're just coming out of Covid shutdowns and the depressing effect they had on oil demand and prices. We're going from one extreme to the other, a glut to a possible shortage due to cutting Russia off. This means some temporary pain while the industry and governments scramble to anticipate changes and make adjustments.

Don't let right-wing media and lying politicians give you false ideas about this administration's energy policies. They're always looking for ways to score political points.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Vindman: Putin Is Taking Russia Back To The “Depths Of The Cold War”

Just a few years ago, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a sitcom star. Now, he’s the leader of a nation at war. Retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman says that the world has “followed in his trail” while America has been “a reluctant player” in this conflict. That could be a mistake, he warns, because “the longer this war continues, the greater the possibility we get drawn into this.” And while Russia uses “draconian tactics” to suppress opposition to the war, Vindman says that its problems are going to add up as the effects of sanctions kick in. On top of that, “the body bags coming back from Ukraine” will underscore the sacrifices Russians are making for Vladimir Putin’s actions. “It’s going to be a catastrophe,” Vindman predicts. He’s proposing a lend-lease program.

This is logic. This is FACT. This is COMMON SENSE:
Biden should be reopening public lands for drilling, starting the pipeline back up, cutting taxes on oil from public lands and encouraging fracking so we can supply ourselves and Europe with oil and shut down Putin's cash cow oil industry. But increasing US oil production flies in the face of the radical, tree hugging, GoreBull Warming, crazy environmentalist fringe folks that control the Democratic Party.

No, these are Republican talking points, not fact.

You're also denying the reality of climate change, a most pernicious bit of right-wing propaganda that even Republican politicians generally know better than to repeat. It is a global problem and the whole world acknowledges it and is trying to deal with it.

"Crazy environmentalist fringe folks" have no significant influence over the Democratic party or this administration.

Russian news anchor says millions of Russians feel invasion is a catastrophe

Russian news director and anchor, Ekaterina Kotrikadze, speaks to CNN's Fareed Zakaria about the state of the country's news media after her station, TV Rain, shut down due to the Russian government's crackdown on local media over unfavorable coverage of the war in Ukraine.

God help you over there. Nutters are in charge. This was in 2019. I'm afraid you've got only 9 years left.

Don’t forget, that each company leaving Russia translates into thousands of lost jobs. Fascist Russia cannot provide everyone with a government job, so many common fascists are on their way back to the poverty of 1990s.

Just came across this article, though:

Western companies cutting ties to Russia has limited effect, experts say
Microsoft, Disney and Ikea are some companies that paused services.

    ByIvan Pereira
    March 6, 2022, 7:02 AM

    ...

Gordon said it's unlikely that any of the Western business pauses will make an impact on Russian President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine, compared to the economic sanctions levied by the U.S. and European nations. The Russian government, however, will likely retaliate against Western-based products and services with boycotts and blocks as the conflict continues.

On Friday, the country said it would ban Facebook and Twitter.

"I don't think the Russian business will be a hospitable place for Western business for a very long time," he said.

    ... https://abcnews.go.com/Business/com...ssia-limited-effect-experts/story?id=83230724

It's like we've suddenly snapped back to the Cold War where Russian-American relations are concerned. But at least modern Russia is hardly in a place militarily or economically to carry this on, and many modern Russians are hardly on board for this either. I don't know which faction within Russia will ultimately win out, but it seems like quite an uphill battle for those who would rather depose Putin and end this madness.
