I confess this hadn't really occurred to me since the drumbeat of western media tends to drown everything else out.

Not everyone wants to make Putin an economic pariah over the Ukraine war

The United States and its European allies, with the backing of close partners such as Canada, Australia, Japan and South Korea, have imposed harsh sanctions on Russia. Those measures are pummeling the Russian economy, crashing the ruble and driving some of the world’s best-known brands to exit the country.

But not everyone is on board with imposing full-on pariah status on Putin.

“Beyond this fortified coalition, very few nations have chosen to take part in the economic warfare set against the Putin government,” David Adler, general coordinator of Progressive International, a group that promotes left-leaning organizations and causes, wrote in a March 10 op-ed in Britain’s Guardian newspaper.

He likened the grouping of countries that want to chart their own course regarding Russia to the Nonaligned Movement that sprang up in the postcolonial 1950s, eschewing allegiance with any major power bloc.

In referring to “world giants” that have chosen to not fully repudiate the Russian leader, Zakharova was principally referring to China, which the Biden administration is trying to dissuade from giving wartime aid to Moscow.

But some of the world’s most populous states — India, Pakistan, Brazil, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Mexico among them — are also signaling a desire to maintain trade ties and other links with Russia while declaring impartiality on the war.

So by population, if not GDP, most of the world, including the world's most populated countries, are impartial. This calls into question how effective the sanctions will be if only Western Europe and the Anglophone nations are actually using them. Is anyone curious why Mexico isn't enforcing sanctions against Russia?

Many of those countries are pretty remote from Russia and maintain limited trading links.
Russia is hurting already, so we are doing well.

    :roflol:

Oh yeah. China is so remote is shares a lengthy border with Russia. India is a helluva closer to Russia than China is to the US and we buy most all of our **** from them. Brazil, a rather large country. BRICS, people should look it up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRICS

The majority of the human population is either neutral or aligned with Russia on this conflict.

Who would have thunk it....there's a whole world out there outside of the fake news West.

Those countries have no dog in this fight. Nobody expected everyone to jump aboard. I wouldn’t expect Ukraine to take a prominent position if Pakistan seized Kashmir region of India.
Enjoy your support from Fiji!

Thank you for this post Lil Mike, it is very refreshing and insightful. The question is why is the news media not even discussing this? It seems they just want to present messages that pat themselves on the back and make them feel good.

"Majority" is aligned with Russia....how so?

By being impartial?.....basically that's saying ...this is your funeral....you deal with it.

How's that "help" from Syria,Libya,or wherever....any of them show up yet?

I hear Assad promised 40K fighters? I suspect the quality of these fighters is pretty low.

Whereas Ukraine is attracting fighters ,snipers, spec ops, from French Foreign Legion, former British SAS, various branches of US Special forces like Green berets,Delta,Rangers,Seals.

Most countries in the world understand that governments attack eachother pretty regularly without the west going apesh** over it. They prolly looking at us fawning all over Ukraine like 'why didn't you care this much when it happened to us?'

I don't think it's just this issue, I think the Western media ("the media") discounts non western points of view unless they can run them through a filter that they can understand through Western liberal points of view. That's a problem that's gotten worse over the years and is connected to the virtual abandonment of international news reporting in the Western media unless it's somehow connected to us, like the Ukraine War is.

The US has no dog in this fight either.

Except for our bioweapons labs that shouldn't be there or our military presence that shouldn't be there. If the US ALWAYS has some bullshit excuse of 'national interests' for putting its nose where it doesn't belong, then so does every other damn country in the world.

Nothing about Yemen or Armenian/Azerb conflicts or the ongoing wars in Africa(Tigray war I think) in the western media. Other regions care, we don't. Just as we care about Ukraine and most other regions don't, its just white Europeans doing what they do to most of the world.

Lots of accidents, accused war crimes, and city battles/bombing in all the other ongoing conflicts as well. Just a side note to western press.

The world according to Western politics>>

How are bioweapon labs that were created by the soviets and that we are helping to dismantle "our bioweapons labs"? And why are factions of the fringe right and the fringe left so desperate to blindly swallow Kremlin lies?

That is actually a rather concise way to explain sentiments in many countries around the world outside the western alliance.

You believe that lie? You blindly swallow (as you say) the bullshit fed to you by the crooks in DC?

Let me ask you, just how many decades does it take to destroy/dismantle a virus?? NONE. Yet it is a documented fact that the US is spending millions and millions on these labs currently. It damn sure ain't to burn some viruses and turn off the lights.

The sanctions are very effective and Russias economy is in shreds. Some countries, like India, don't say anything because its a "damn if you do and damn if you don't" situation for them

India is buying huge amounts of oil from Russia .. making out like bandits. Your claim about sanction is something you made up -something for which you have given no support. You may be right to some extent .. but, point being .. you certainly don't know whether or not you are.

Russia will survive the sanctions. The Russians will not, however, come out of this war in a favorable position without either a clear strategic vision (one that corresponds to why most people outside the Western alliance are straddling the fence) nor a viable tactical plan. The Russians basically crossed the Rubicon without a clear idea where they were heading or how to get to where they thought they would be heading.

Russia screwed the pooch here bigly.....many average Russkis will starve , or if they have skills, they could relocate to the EU, or elsewhere.

The fatcat oligarchs.....which have (most) assets frozen right about now.....will duck and weave their way around as much as possible....like buzzards...never in one place too long, and finding carrion wherever they can. They have some cash stashed somewhere I'd think....
