Is the GOP dumbing down?

Bill Maher, of whom the right loves to quote when he criticizes the woke left, which he does, often ( as do I ), has a bone to pick with the right ( as do I ).

What I want to know, if you'll indulge me and listen to what he saying, is it really this bad?

I know we got a few doozies on the left, but I really don't think there is a comparison like the new crop that is coming up on the right.

The GOP used to be the party of science. Now they're the party that ignores what the scientists tell them.

 

They listen to trump. People died because they believed him and tried drinking bleach.
He has blood on his hands for his behavior.

 

The sad part is that the extremists now emerging are the product of a social media mentality that has corrupted all of modern life in both east and west, left and right.
As with everything, social media can be used for good and evil, but it makes it very easy for evil to do its job, and there are plenty of people wanting to do evil and play the system as much as they can and social media now gives them an audience they never had before.
It has become the perfect example of the adage to never argue with idiots because they drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. The end result is a nation obsessed with discussing the bullshit notions of the idiots as if they mattered.

 

I hate to interrupt the little circle jerk going on here.... But they have us both right where they want us. Keep em fighting amongst their selves while we rob then blind, left and right.

But don't pay no mind to that just carry on with your partisanship and be convinced you're on the right side! Remember, you're right and they're wrong!

Come on man!!! Trump didn't say to drink bleach, and not one person died from drinking bleach. You know that. So much for your credibility.
Trump spoke about the role he thought disinfectants could play in tackling an infection caused by the virus during an April 23 briefing. But he didn’t say people should drink bleach.

 

The progressive woke left is the same as the Trump right. Obviously not in substance since these are opposite sides of the aisle, but both are reactionary self-assured morons pushing their respective political parties further and further into utter nonsense. There is little to nothing about either of these groups that are going to benefit America.

 

Meh. He picked on some low hanging fruit of people campaigning and a couple of far right idiots (like MTG). Seemed typical to me. :shrug: He didn't name many though. What about the rest of the people campaigning?

For a party which has hit rock bottom, they are beating the pants off the democrats in the polls. You should probably spend a bit of time considering that one fact and then come back to us with an explanation (or more likely an excuse).

 

Sometimes, I just cannot believe those that helped steal the 2020 election for Beijing Biden don't just crawl under a rock and hide for the rest of eternity.

Nowhere in your link does it say that Trump ever told anyone to drink bleach. Did you read it before posting it?

No. Stupidity is an equal opportunity employer. The fault I have with the Republican party is they are loyal to a fault.

 

A couple of thoughts.

Maher made an anti-gay joke at Lindsay Graham's expense. I thought it was funny, but don't you guys think that's homophobia, or is it OK to make gay accusations to either straight people or someone who hasn't come out yet?

Your premise is that the GOP is "dumbing down" and used the example of Herschel Walker's creationism. But is that new? The GOP, and the Democrats have had people who were creationists, and at one time that probably made the majority of both parties. Were both parties dumber at that time?

He makes multiple attacks against candidates, people who have not even had primaries yet. Is that the standard? Who's running rather than who wins is the standard? Are you sure you want that?

All in all, it's rather weak sauce. I realize that Maher wants to fluff out some ant-GOP bits to balance out the anti-woke ones he's done (which will vanish the closer we get to the election) but this hardly makes the case that the GOP is dumbing down. After all, you guys have the squad, which actually did win their elections.

I think Bill M. Is hilarious. As for the evolution of apes comment I basically made the same comment the other day. I still don’t know that if we came from apes it makes any sense they didn’t evolve as well. Did their evolution just stop while some hybrids kept on evolving? Yeah… anyway you can laugh at me too I never claimed to know it all just something I happen to agree with.

Not loyal to republicans, we are loyal to our roots. If a Republican goes after my guns I won’t vote for them either. And that’s not the only thing.

 

That's true in your case. However, Republicans seem to shrug off things that they raise hell about from others (ie. beating police officers are cool if it happens at the Capitol for Trump? Human trafficking and affairs and fraud and a host of other unethical and illegal acts...). One's value system should be the constant and everything is measured against that, not party or person.
