The crux of the matter is clout. You can have student debate in class about any subject, but when a biased teacher injects their biased beliefs, children "Via years of academic and instructor trust" are influenced! Instructors are not there to influence/indoctrinate children's beliefs to match their "instructors warped" ideologies!

Yeh, let's apply this to CONSERVATIVES.

What? What's that mournful whining sound? Sounds a LOT like somebody's Ox being gored doesn't it?

Lol, Florida's government is on a roll. First they are banning books that mention things they don't approve, and now they want to drive academics out of their state. Uneducated peasants are easier to control and brainwash I suppose.

Yup, but it seems they are more geared to teach ideology first these day then any other academic curriculum :)

They writing the political ideology into textbooks. They are training teachers how to present political ideology and get away with it. It goes on. It doesn't matter how much time is used in the classroom. It has no place there. Teachers should teach what they are paid to teach.

Who specifically is "training teachers how to present political ideology and get away with it"? Who specifically is "writing the political ideology into textbooks"? And yes, it actually does matter how much time is used in the classroom because your complaint was, and I quote...."There is something wrong with teaching political ideology in a classroom when it replaces time spent on teaching the academic subject."
You don't actually know how much time and how often political ideology is being discussed in classrooms.

I have yet to see an example of "ideology" being written into textbooks. The one example I saw of what was in a textbook showed tolerance for others, not "ideology".
I totally disagree that teachers should only teach what they are paid to teach. Their function is to help prepare our young people to be successful in this world. That goes beyond just academic subjects. They need to be able to socialize and get along with others. They should also be exposed to different ideas than they would just get at home. A lot of parents are hateful towards and intolerant of others. Being exposed to a different point of view than what their parents hold can be a good thing.

What this bill is about is the government wanting more control over people and minds. Sorry, but I'll take academic freedom over government control any day.

And to date no one has offered definitive proof that they are not doin so. But this bill is not about evaluating performance it is about stifling free speech

Who, specifically, are “they”? And what ideology are “they” writing? How many and what percentage of textbooks? Are those books being widely taught?

You are clearly missing the point and the entire picture.. Reality might even be part of it too.. Again, living in another country may have something to do with your limited real outlook on U.S. educational issues!

Like I said, clearly distance and lack of U.S. involvement puts you at a disadvantage, your questions prove that :(

What is the point? It sounds like government wants more control over people's thoughts. I think people should be exposed to more ideas, not less. Parents don't have all the answers. A lot of times their answers are ****ed up. The government certainly doesn't have people's best interests in mind. They want money and they want votes, and they will say whatever they think they have to say to get them.

Let the individual decide what they think is best. Expose them to lots of ideas, from home from school, from government, from religion, from philosophy, and from life experiences. Then let the individual decide what is best for them to follow.

You seem to think that people cannot think for themselves, and being exposed to an idea will warp them to that way of thinking. People can think for themselves, and the more ideas they are exposed to, the more they will realize that they HAVE to think for themselves, and choose the beliefs that make THEM happy, not their parents, not their teachers, and certainly not the government.

I find it amusing how politicians have managed to convince many that being "awake", and seeing through all the BS lies that have been fed to them over the centuries is a bad thing.
