Ok folks, can I get the reasons why we aren’t drilling? Lots of people say it would improve our future energy supply which is a National security issue.

    Let’s hear it.

    Climate change.

    Next question.

we are still getting and using oil, we are just doing it from foreign sources. So your answer isn’t adequate.

And we still have climate change. Which is getting worse. Like apocalyptic worse. The answer is more than adequate.

So we aren’t drilling because of climate change but we are burning oil and gas like crazy because that’s just what we do.

you’ve got a funny way of solving a problem

We are drilling. We have climate change. The 'we' refers to humans. Or the US. Because if the US drills for national security sake, then other countries have to drill as well for national security sake. I mean, I don't understand what your point is.

The point is drilling by itself doesn’t impact the climate. Only the burning of fossil fuels does. You worrying about drilling is completely worthless if we are still burning fossil fuels at rates leading to your “apocalyptic” climate scenario.

which means the only difference between shutting off drilling and not shutting off drilling is the price we pay at the pump. Nothing to do with climate at all.

So what you're saying is climate change is because of burning of fossil fuels... which is why we drill... to extract fossil fuels...

In logic there is an argument form that basically looks like this.
    P1:If A then B.
    P2: If B then C.
    :.If A then C.

    So in other words...
P1: If we drill, then it is to extract fossil fuels for energy purposes.
P2: If we burn fossil fuels for energy, then we contribute to climate change.
:. If we drill, then we contribute to climate change.

wrong, our energy consumption is what our energy consumption is. If every single drop of oil were suddenly taken out of the earth, our burning of fossil fuels would not increase, it would just be far far cheaper to burn it.

Your problem is you equate the drilling with the burning therefore if we drill more we must therefore burn more. That is completely false.

We drill…for natural gases to burn for energy… which leads to climate change. Therefore, drilling leads to climate change. Which is clearly what the OP is asking about in terms of energy policy.

Hey I cited logic, and to be frank have to ask, why do you think we drill in the first place, but I don't think this is a serious discussion at this point. It's a joke. We drill to extract fossil fuels for energy. Simple as that.

same reason we buy bulk at Costco. To get cheaper prices. Does that mean with all that food stockpiled in your pantry that you eat more? No, you eat at the same rate you always do and poop into the toilet at the same rate you always do.

your argument is we shouldn’t buy bulk at Costco but pay higher prices for smaller amounts of food and that’ll help the environment because we’ll poop less. No, we are still eating the same amount. We are just paying higher prices for it because that is really what people like you are gunning for

California managed to supply 100% of its electricity needs through renewable sources. While temporary, does help to mark an important update in energy needs- renewable energy sources are viable. So if we want to survive climate change, we need to reduce the number of green house gases, in part by switching as much electricity production to renewable sources.

I'll believe that argument when the US isn't using about 20% of the entire world's energy supply. It's cheaper... so why not use it in more things and more often?
"In 2019, U.S. total primary energy consumption was about 100 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu). U.S. total primary energy use was about 17% of the total world primary energy consumption of about 604 quadrillion Btu in 2019. The United States’ percentage share of world population was about 4% in 2019."

I'm a raving greenie, but even I have to agree with this. It's so freaking obvious at this point in the year 2022.

Please with this nonsense. The Earth has been warmer than it is now before, and it'll be warmer than it is now again. And colder, too. It's just the planet's way of breathing. If we have to move our happy asses away from today's shorelines multiple centuries from now, well, it won't be the first time humanity has had to deal with that.

What, you think the seashores have always been where they are now before we came along and mucked things up? HAH!!

California .. where the cost of living is beyond the grasp of almost everyone but the rich? The same state with a massive homeless population? The same state which tells you to buy a 'lectric car, then tells you not to use too much 'lectricity?

Evolution occurs over thousands, and millions of years. The Earth has a stable climate during those times. When they don't, we have mass extinctions. Earth's temperature has dramatically increased in the past 100 or so years. Meaning life can't adapt in time. Which will lead to mass extinction like we're seeing now.

I honestly have no clue what this post is supposed to prove.

It's not supposed to PROVE anything. It's supposed to smack you upside your pretty head with the unpleasant realities of life in your 'model state'.

And most all of the foreign sources are more polluting of the environment and have a larger carbon footprint than our sources. Also the higher gas and oil prices make domestic coal more economically viable again thus raising the footprint even more.

California has serious issues surrounding wealth and homelessness. But they’re also one of the largest economies on Earth. And if one of the largest economies on Earth can go green even if only for a little bit? That says a lot.
