Anyone like to guess how long it will take them to cure all the evils of their predecessors? The outgoing Rightist Govt was blamed for poverty, increasing homelessness, poverty, the cost of living, real estate prices, poverty, hurt feelings, mean speech, poverty, environmental degradation, poverty, corporate interests, poverty, etc etc. How long did it take Biden to cure poverty etc? Can we build back better than him?
I've heard that the left and right of the world are the reverse of the terms used in American politics. So, I don't feel like working out what this means for Australia. Did the "democrats" of Australia just take over? Or did they lose power?
Our previously Right wing Govt was just ousted by the Left. As per your Republicans being ousted by your Democrats. So yeah, our 'Democrats' just took over.
Didn't Scumo fail at a lot of basic governance during disaster relief? Haven't been paying too much attention to Australia but I have some Aussie friends who hated the previous administration.
If you regard paying Australians impacted by COVID lockdowns $750 a week a failure, I'm not sure what you'd consider a success. The guy went quite 'socialist' during the emergency .. a surprise to everyone but his Christian fellows. As for disaster relief, I suspect you're referring to the recent floods? If so, what did he fail to do, which previous Left wing Govts did do during such times? And how will the new Left Govt respond to such emergencies? You might want to ask your Australian friends these questions. Also ask them how soon they expect to see a cure for poverty, affordable housing, climate change, and homelessness - the 'issues' most Lefties swear are caused by the Right. These are the very issues they vote on .. so I'm interested in their answers.
Labor and Liberal are essentially CENTRIST governments. The real problem lies with 'independents' and yes, the Greens. With a Green govt you would see Australia withdraw from the American alliance and be 'neutral.' And with the Woke influence it would get even grimmer.
I went with 4 as well. I have a feeling we will find global war under these leftist cowards. Showing weakness is all they do. I find it ironic that the world is closer to world war with Biden when everyone was so worried about Trump
I'm not sure I can answer that one I don't really understand Australian politics. As far as curing things like poverty and various other societal ills these are ills of society if you have a society you have them. If Australia is anything like the US it won't really matter these people will say they do something to get elected and they get elected They won't do anything to help. If it's anything like politics in the US anyone who says they're going to make things better is most likely going to make things worse
Ask the voters who decided to make the change. I guess they got tired of waiting around while the rightist govt failed to deliver.
Most of which was caused by high levels of immigration, which the new government will have even more of. Australia has plenty of space, but all the job opportunities are centered on mostly just three major cities. And those cities have become unaffordable for average Australians, due to excessive population growth and overcrowding. (Chinese real estate investors swooping into Sydney did not help either)
I'll be very surprised if the Leftist government is able to deliver to them what they wanted either. I am imagining that the working class and lower middle class will suffer even more for the next 6 years. Good intentions are not a substitute for sound and logical policy.
People need to calms down. I reality? Both sides of politics in this election were pretty much committed to broadly similar foreign affairs, defense and economic policies. Yes they're be fiddling around the edges on specifics issues but in reality? No major changes in international political relations are under consideration. Examples? The AUKUS had the full support of both the old and the new government and apart from a (sightly) higher projected deficit than under the Labor no BIG changes in economic policy. On top of that the Liberal government had been in power for 9 years already and people obviously wanted to give it time on the bench to take a long look at itself before voting it back in some time in the future. The rest? Too many foreigners see a 'left wing' Labor government getting elected in Australia and automatically picture some form of radical socialism is at play. It's not. Any more than the British Labor Party are a bunch of radical left wing socialists. Yes the ALP is simply to the 'left' on the political spectrum to the Liberal Party. But it's not to the far left, it's to the center left. Same way as the liberals aren't dominated by a neo-fascist agenda. The key polices that got labor over the line? The introduction of a National Anti-Corruption body to oversight the public service and Parliament (including politicians) and quicker action on green house admissions. And both sides had committed to cuts BTW but labor just committed to taking more action sooner. So big picture? No dramatic changes ahead. Until the next election rolls around.
Even as something of an environment spruiker myself, I can't argue with this. The Greens are shockingly dangerous to the common man.
~ I often wonder if these people are legitimately voted into office — or are they preselected and " placed" into office ... ? '
Of course you and I know nothing much will change. But many people actually vote in the belief these social ills are a result of Conservative Govts. They genuinely believe that Leftist Govts will 'fix' poverty.
Failed to deliver what? And I have asked. The answer is pretty much "because the other guys made us poor" (which by inference means they think their team will make them un-poor).
And yet pretty much all our Proggy voters live in those three cities. It's very definitely the party of the toffs, in 2022.
Are they good intentions? A 12 year old knows taking the soft option leads to more pain, so how can these allegedly superior adults be unaware? If there is any genuine unawareness .. it can only come from hubris. The deep arrogance of a lifetime of privilege, and losing all sight of true struggle.
Try telling that to your average Progressive. They absolutely believe in the 'socialist' difference, and that the Left will take care of them.
Well it seems anytime there's someone in charge that people don't like they cause all the problems and when someone replaces that someone they don't like and it's someone they do like well all the problems are on the caused by the predecessor and it just never ends. These people are called pawns. I'm one of those people that simply votes my interests and I understand no problem will ever be solved by government.
