BUDAPEST, Hungary -- World swimming’s governing body has effectively banned transgender women from competing in women’s events, starting Monday.

FINA members widely adopted a new “gender inclusion policy” on Sunday that only permits swimmers who transitioned before age 12 to compete in women’s events. The organization also proposed an “open competition category.”

“This is not saying that people are encouraged to transition by the age of 12. It’s what the scientists are saying, that if you transition after the start of puberty, you have an advantage, which is unfair,” James Pearce, who is the spokesperson for FINA president Husain Al-Musallam, told The Associated Press.

“They’re not saying everyone should transition by age 11, that’s ridiculous. You can’t transition by that age in most countries and hopefully you wouldn’t be encouraged to. Basically, what they’re saying is that it is not feasible for people who have transitioned to compete without having an advantage.”

Pearce confirmed there are currently no transgender women competing in elite levels of swimming.

Phewwwww.... there are reasonable people still left on this planet! I hope to see more sports organizations taking the same steps. Hopefully this trend continues!

Now women must recognize that they are not equal to men.

They never were in any kind of physical competition. Biology 101. That's exactly why we created women sports to give them a safe space for competition.

Perhaps you can share with us many of the dozens of stories out there about women who transitioned to men that started competing and winning? I'm sure a dozen will do.

The difference in strength automatically disqualifies them. There are sports where both can compete on a level playing field. Drag racing is one example.

This is about keeping men out.

It must not be since the transition can participate if they change before 12.

So, the liberal world explodes because a governing body refused to comply with the nonsense that a man can compete as a woman..... The horror.... Next, we'll be told that this is "discrimination" against one's sex... even though genetically this isn't true. The emotions of the left must be frazzled today.

My folks have never transgendered, so your assumption is a load of BS. I was stating what the rules were from the OP story, now piss off.

How the heck can the medical field allow kids under 12 to switch to the other side?

    You called it….

"FINA’s new eligibility criteria for transgender athletes and athletes with intersex variations is discriminatory, harmful, unscientific and not in line with the 2021 IOC principles. If we truly want to protect women’s sports, we must include all women," Athlete Ally, an advocacy group for trans people’s inclusion in sports, wrote in a tweet.
    ……..

"This sudden and discriminatory decision is a blatant attack on transgender athletes who have worked to comply with longstanding policies that have allowed them to participate for years without issue. This policy is an example of swimming organizations caving to the avalanche of ill-informed, prejudiced attacks targeted at one particular transgender swimmer. We urge the FINA to rethink its policy and ensure inclusion for all athletes -- including transgender women – and allow them to participate in sports free from discrimination, abuse and harassment," Madison’s statement said.

When women sued men to be allowed to be part of their clubs that had women excluded.

I hate to say "I told you so" but I have always said let the sports organizations work this out. Whether it is swimming, golf, tennis, soccer or whatever the people best suited to deal with this are the organizations themselves. The ones least suited to deal with it is government.

Taking a scalpel to a child is sick. I realize that in some parts of the world, such barbaric practices are normal.

I read that article. There was no one winning in it. It was full of narrative and the "victory" was an elite level girl transitioning and "beating" 85% of boys in swimming. The other example is a star athlete who is portrayed as the best runner on the girl's team who transitions as a junior to the boys team. Here is what it says...

By his senior year, Ezra was co-captain of the boys’ team and the underclassmen looked up to him. In retrospect, he looks back at the decision to switch teams as not only one of the most consequential moments in his athletic career, but as a culmination of sorts in the evolution of his identity.

“My experience as a trans person has been living with a lot of conflict constantly — conflict between how I see myself and how my body looks, conflict between how other people see me and who I know myself to be. Not being able to run on the men’s team takes that conflict and it puts it in the forefront of my mind, and it puts it in the forefront of everyone else’s mind. And that might be the absolute worst thing that you can do to a high schooler, whether it’s gender-related conflict or, or any other type of core, internal conflict,” Ezra says.
Not there is nothing there about performance at all. The "victories" are about pronouns, names, "representation' and so on.

The hilarious thing about statements like above is athletics is FULL of DISCRIMINATION. It's like people wave a word around like a magic wand and suspend all critical thinking.

I'm 5'10" and basketball seems to DISCRIMINATE against men like me. I look and see basketball full of all these... TALL PEOPLE. It's discrimination!!!!

No kidding it is discrimination. Also claims like "participate for years without issue" are just an outright lie. We don't all this legislation and push back because there was "no issue". There are plenty of issues. If they can't be honest then their arguments aren't worth consideration.
