So Boebert is sick of this separation of church 'junk'.

Of course it didn't occur to her that perhaps some people in the electorate would expect our representatives, you know, the folks who make laws consistent with the CONSTITUTION, that they would have at least studied the Bill of Rights.

Separation of Church and State is in the establishment clause of the First Amendment which states that you are free to practice your religion, just as long at it isn't subsidized directly by the US Taxpayer or otherwise sponsored by the US Government. I think we should use the word 'sponsor' on this because one could argue that their tax free status is, in effect, funding by the tax payers to the degree they do not pay taxes, others do. But, they do charity work. However, not all of their work is charity, they run businesses, or a number of religions such as Scientology, do. For example Scientology's book and film department, and their 'OSA" Office of Special Affairs, their nefarious and litigious dirty tricks department. Should not any business that a tax free institution runs be taxed?

Anyone here want to dispute that point on Boebert's ignorance of the first amendment?

Also, do any of you in the PF peanut gallery think it's a good idea that, in order to qualify as a lawmaker, anywhere, that they must pass a test on basic civics and the constitution? Is that too much to ask of our lawmakers? I mean, if there ever were evidence of the need for such a test, she is the living example.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/06/28/lauren-boebert-church-state-colorado/

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), who faces a primary election Tuesday, says she is “tired” of the U.S. separation of church and state, a long-standing concept stemming only from a “stinking letter” penned by one of the Founding Fathers.

Speaking at a religious service Sunday in Colorado, she told worshipers: “The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church. That is not how our Founding Fathers intended it.”

She added: “I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk that’s not in the Constitution. It was in a stinking letter, and it means nothing like what they say it does.” Her comments were first reported by the Denver Post.

I can’t see the full article and I’m wondering how her exact quote made its way to the Post.

Edit: thanks to Buri I can see there was a video. I like this fiery woman and respect her convictions, but is agree with her on this subject.

I give her points for saying what the right wing represents

The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church

We have 5 SCOTUS judges elected by men that the voters rejected, one of which was placed unethically because ignoring the will of the people wasn't enough, they have to also game the system to force their unwanted agenda.

And now they are openly pushing for religious rule.

Is Boebert dumber than we thought? Can somewhat tell her to read the 1st, and then tell her separation of church and state was a term used by Thomas Jefferson who was one of the founding fathers.

But I'm sure she knows more about the intent of the constitution than Thomas Jefferson.

    Totally...
Boebert is the greatest original thinker on the subject since John Locke..
Hard to believe that she isn't a massive frontrunner for the 2024 GOP Pres. Nomination...

Where were these Christian values when her husband was showing his Johnson to teenage girls in a bowling alley?

She may not be, however, she is not stupid. She knows exactly that, by peddling this kind of stuff, she gets votes from the RW extremist base and the evangelicals, who salivate at installing a theocracy in the US.

I don’t even like a church in my spirituality, let alone in my government.

Boebert has been in bat guano mode since she was elected. This is what we get when politicians are simply uncivil loud mouths who need attention.

She's a little backward here. The real discussion is the left's version of the world that won't tolerate religious speech had to be addressed. It isn't a time then to start with the stupidity of Boebert here..... And if you confronted her with the idea that other religions meaning non christian, might need to also be tolerated, you might blow her mind...

Yes indeed - it is amazing the moronic logic that will be used to justify law under a Theocracy ..

She's REALLY backward here. I get it, she's just pandering to her crowd. But saying stupid **** like the church is supposed to direct the gov earns her a healthy bitchslap. I've no doubt she'd lose her **** if someone told her that islam should direct our gov.

Her vision is a Christian Theocracy ... she can't even comprehend that other religions are even religions, so she would argue they would not need to be tolerated.

That's a pretty pathetic attempt to deflect the topic of this thread away from Boebert and Republicans' attempts to piss on the Constitution when it doesn't support their political careers. Ignorance and arrogance are now standard planks in the Republican party.

I would love to ask her "If it should be religion dictating to government, then it's ok for Detroit or Michigan to vote for Sharia Law?"
Would be fun to watch the fireworks in her brain go off.
