Trump Group Pays for Jan. 6 Lawyers, Raising Concerns of Witness Pressure

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald J. Trump's political organization and his allies have paid for or promised to finance the legal fees of more than a dozen witnesses called in the congressional investigation into the Jan. 6 attack, raising legal and ethical questions about whether the former president may be influencing testimony with a direct bearing on him.

The arrangement drew new scrutiny this week after Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide in his White House, made an explosive appearance before the House panel, providing damning new details about Mr. Trump’s actions and statements on the day of the deadly riot.

She did so after firing a lawyer who had been recommended to her by two of Mr. Trump’s former aides and paid for by his political action committee, and hiring new counsel. Under the representation of the new lawyer, Jody Hunt, Ms. Hutchinson sat for a fourth interview with the committee in which she divulged more revelations and agreed to come forward publicly to testify to them.

It is extremely odd and curious with a lot of posts describing the same exact thing describing it in totally opposite views. Shows, I guess, people see and hear what they want to see and hear.

Evidently Hutchinson had a dislike of her former boss' boss which made the committee very giddy, and was just the type -- the only type -- of witness they wanted. She disliked Trump and was willing to say bad things about him, verifiable or not doesn't matter because no challenges will be allowed anyway, Her first lawyer, while willing to represent her as a lawyer, probably made clear he personally (as opposed to lawyerly) didn't agree with what she was going to testify and its veracity. I would have changed lawyers too.

Straight out of the purge playbook. Try to not let defense witnesses have legal representation, but if that can't be done for other reasons at least disparage, denigrate, slander, and trash hell out of them.

The committee is not worthy of Trump's testimony...The committee is the ones showing they are not telling the truth, so I'm thinking for Trump to step up and let the committee tell yet more lies and alter the evidence of what he said would only be the results... they have already altered evidence and lied about it, so there would be no doubt that will happen again, with the common denominator by the name of Schiff.

They have put witness that is just a low level aide to the Chief of Staff that is giving 2nd and 3rd hand testimony and the left treats her like a god that is not to be doubted...

The committee is illegit and illegal, so any testimony they collect will be illegit and illegal and not permissible in a court of law... Fruit of the Poisonous Tree doctrine...

They have omitted evidence regarding Ray Epps, the figure seen in many videos orchestrating the breach of the Capitol who, nevertheless, has not been indicted by the Justice Department.

Their repeated claims that the event was an “armed insurrection” of “white supremacists,” not one person has been charged with carrying or using a firearm inside the Capitol building.

The committee needs to clean up their own act before continuing this charade..

Hutchinson claims she wrote a note... that it is her handwriting... while Eric Herschmann claims it is his note written on January 6, 2021...

The political right is lining up to volunteer to be the next laughing stock for stupid political jokes. They have nothing ...... NOTHING ..... to offer by way to facts, truth, hope or a future for us. So all they can do at this point is to pretend they don't understand what the Committee is doing and why. They have no choice but to pretend it is a legal proceeding, --a court trial, --or should be. They hope to trick the sane part of America into forgetting that it will be up to the DOJ to act with charges and prosecutions and court trials if the DOJ thinks any are warranted. This trickery gives them an opportunity to slander and smear anyone who is not among their cohort of Trump loyalists.

And this is what we have come to as the right continues to do such damage to America.
