That's right. I had DVorbis pegged wrong. Up a couple of rungs he goes. And you too. Historically the the GG was a military position. But that was in the distant past and it has evolved. As AA pointed out we live in dangerous times and our country is becoming less independent; not more independent. Having Cosgrove as GG is I think a smart move for the times. We cannot rely totally on the UN as a rationale for our defense because it was created by the allies after WW2 when the West and Communism were the only games in town. All of that is changing and is being challenged by new players. We are very vulnerable without the US.
That sounds like Cosgrove might be the right decision for things to come...... Yes I agree, it is scary, but I often wonder whether peace is more in reach with less weapons as compared to building up the army's profile and acquire more weapons. But then, some argue that the cold war was one of the safest periods in modern times. To me mutual respect is high on my list, and it can't be achieved with more army stuff. But that is only me. Regards
Now that is a reasonable comment. One would like to think that more peace and less weapons is better of course. BUT realistically when you have religious zealots and far more desperate nations trying to achieve the same as the more advanced without the simplest effort you realize that there may be war, regardless of if you like it or not. BTW, when I talk of religious zealots I do not confine my point to any one or group as ALL religions have their radicals who want the world to act and be ruled in their own particular religious view. With so many different political views and regimes ALL being of expansionist systems of some degree, war is inevitable. As the future comes the fact that expansion is limited by size, location and demographic push comes to encroach on other nations and people. One solution to a peaceful future is one world governance, but again this will not resolve anything as localities will often fight for MORE. BUT I do commend the thought you have on this point unfortunately I believe it goes only skin deep (so to speak) as to the belief of what will bring war and what will not...
Well, it took some time, but obviously my doubt to elect an ex soldier to the Governor General of Australia was (possibly) wrong: https://www.abc.net.au/4corners/ghosts-of-timor:-the-dark-stain-on-australias/13826106 So much headwind I received at the time by questioning the election of an ex soldier, however my doubts were obviously not unfounded, Cats
The bloke who out of routine signs every bill and if he didn't would promptly be sacked? Pretty much the only qualification for office is that you won't Whitlam the PM of the day.
