They are so funny. Last year I put feeders on the front and back porch and the boss hummingbird stayed busy keeping other hummingbirds away. He was a real little trooper.

 

There is or at one there was a restaurant in Cedar Key that served a swamp cabbage slaw.

 

Even as psychedelically adventurous as I was in my late teens and early twenties that's one i left alone.

 

I live in a fairly rural county and it's still somewhat of an annual tradition around here to go out and harvest some.

I wasn't terribly impressed with it myself. You need a tree where the top knot of it is maybe 6 ft and then you just need an ax and a machete and some sweat.

You want to cut off every part that slightly green because that's very bitter.

 

I have heard of a kind of soup made with them. There will come a day when it will be against the law to harvest them or there will be a limit on them. I have seen vendors in north central Florida selling them.

 

Pictures of the little squirrel. I went outside and played a recording pretty loud of a baby squirrel crying and an attempt to find its mother, no we're in sight. In addition to the severe storm we had that afternoon now the neighbors have cut down most of the tree that I found it in.

So it appears as though we have a new addition to the family. It is eating solid foods but I'm also giving it some puppy milk replacer even though it may be right at the cusp of being weaned I don't think it would hurt.


My girlfriend says it's name is Simon even if it turns out to be a girl.

 

I'm thinking this squirrel is 8 to 10 weeks old. It takes the formula from the syringe ravenously. I have to be careful that it does not aspirate and catch pneumonia.

They say a formula comes out of its nose just hold its head down so that gravity can pull the formula out.

I found a good website that's very informative on rearing squirrels and from everything I can tell it's perfectly healthy. It did not even appear dehydrated though it was very hungry.

 

What does the dog think of it?

 

Probably wants to eat it. The dog has a long cable run outside and a large crate inside ( pees to much and never calms down) .

If the squirrel is uncaged inside, the dog must be outside

Just fed the baby squirrel a bottle of formula. Squirrel was full of piss and vinegar and ready to eat. Suck down the bottle ravenously until it decided it had had enough, at which point it promptly went to bed.

And I am doing the same thing... Bye for now

 

When he rips off your face don't blame it for being a squirrel.

The squirrel grows stronger by the day. I'll have to post a picture of it nursing, later.

So how does it thank me every time I feed it? It poops on me, that's how...

I had v2 westies and they killed a chipmunk once, they were bred for that!

 

He cried until I got my sorry ass out of bed and fed him.

Well it was a can..... Or I should say cans with an s

 

So I got these nice aggressive anodized aluminum foot pegs for my motorcycle off of Amazon.... They're about 30% larger than the stock steel ones.


As you can see by the one on the right I had the machine it down to make it work. Your feet won't slip on these bad boys. But you better not have flip-flops on.... But then again having flip flops on a motorcycle is a dumbass thing to do to begin with. I learned my lesson the hard way about wearing Crocs. I won't even ride so much as a motorized bicycle without some boots on now

 

The spouse raised a squirrel many years ago, used to ride around in the work truck and play like a hood ornament inside at the windshield. Released the little guy back into the wild when he was about 6 months. ZOOM, off he went, didn't even wave good bye....

 

That's probably what will eventually become of this one. I just hope they're able to make it after life in captivity for a while

 

He or she may just hang around and if it does...watch out. Nothing is sacred especially under the car hood.

 

It should be understood that the Domestic cat sleeps 75% of the time, and is thus possibly the laziest creature that exists.
