No, that is one of the factors that will sink them as it did in the Soviet Union.

Who says that the government bureaucrats have all the answers and that the private sector, which represents the vast majority of the people have none?

That’s how communism works, or more aptly fails to work. A few at the top make all of the decisions and try to implement the plans and logistics to run them. Ultimately it fails because no one can manage an undertaking of that size effectively.

This happens in the private sector. Corporations that get too large and become unmanageable. Their bureaucracies become out of touch with the market. It happened to General Motors and it happened to AT&T where I worked for a number years.

Far leftists hate the concept, but Adam Smith had it right almost 250 years ago. The “invisible hand” created by markets is best for allocating resources and getting things done right.

    Hello from Australia...

I've just returned after a hiatus because Twitter's feeling a bit weird right now and I thought I'd give it a break, which means I'm back here...

I want to say this in the nicest way possible, but I don't understand why any intelligent and caring person would vote for Trump. Trump's about greed and ugliness and cruelty. I'd like to think most Americans are better than that, but after seeing a lot of MAGA ones actually be gleeful about an old bloke in his 80's be seriously injured by a lunatic with a hammer, I'm not feeling too kindly about Americans anymore.

BTW, an authoritarian calls you deplorable. Trump haters don't know what authoritarian means. Trump haters use the term authoritarian to describe Trump as despicable...because authoritarian Trump haters must stop Trump's speech and thought, for examples, because (according to authoritarian Trump haters) Trump's speech and thought is evil.:roflol:

It seems most people have no clue what authoritarian means and use the term authoritarian to smear Trump. I'm sorry you've been indoctrinated. Think for yourself.

Trump praised dictators and attacked our allies, it's no wonder the rest of the world is asking what is going on in the USA anymore

I think the rest of the world have their own problems to deal with. They should take care of themselves and stop obsessing about us. We'll be fine.

I hope China or Russia doesn't take the role the US use to play as a superpower and take control of the global currency

China has been looking to do that for quite a while. If we destroy the dollar with "Modern Monetary Theory" and in crease the money supply in an unlimited way, the Chinese might just do it.

That should scare the people who hate America but I'm afraid they're too stupid to understand what that would mean.

if the rich keep getting richer and the poor poorer, then putting more money into the economy is the one option.. Though I agree, it's a bad option unless higher taxes on the rich are imposed to pay for it, as well as tariffs to reduce excessive foreign imports, foreign imports are fine at a reasonable level

excessive foreign imports and excessive foreign outsourcing is destroying the American economy

using excessive labor from overseas and the working class buying everything from overseas is not sustainable in the long term

we have to find a way to tax foreign outsourcing, maybe raise a corps tax burden 15% if they outsource jobs

~ There certainly is. Unfortunately one of the biggest crimes is the Covid quarantine camps that the citizenry have allowed . Gives the Australian term "outback " an entirely different meaning ... :-?

Now about limiting government spending? The way it’s done now is to sell bonds to the Federal Reserve which creates more dollars to fund it. When I took economics from a Keynesian professor in 1970, he said that would never be public policy, yet here it is. That is highly inflationary for two reasons. It increases aggregate demand and it increases the money supply.

This is probably the gulf between us. I support smaller government that encourages innovation from the private sector. The modern extreme left supports larger government although the more intelligent among them knows that the Soviet / Maoist “5 year plan” model does not work. The substitute for them is big government with corporate cooperation, which is fascism. “Taxing the rich” often takes money out of the private sector, which is usually counterproductive. The Great Depression continued through the 1930s because of the New Deal 91% top marginal tax rates. You don’t take money from job creators to fix economic depressions.

And that money that comes out of the private sector, where does it go? Does it just disappear? Is it stored in a giant Scrooge McDuck like vault where members of Congress swim in it?
It pays the salaries of the people who build our roads, repair our bridges. It goes to pay the firemen, policemen, and FBI agents.

What do they do with it? The spend it on stuff IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR.

What is a patriot if other than those that agree with us? Seems to me the word has been co-opted by groups that only applies it to themselves. It is like placing a merit badge on my own chest and then bragging about it.

Patriots I respect are those that place country over party or political cults of personality and work for all rather than their own political tribe.

~ For the most part the USA has lost much of its patriotism. I believe this happened due to the Vietnam War debacle . Most Americans with an IQ and some semblance of common sense lost faith in government, politicians, and the fight against communism.

Wrong; the Soviet Union was a wholly planned economy, China combines free markets with state control.

Indeed it was moving too far in the direction of free markets , and making money from housing as an investment vehicle, the usual free-market chicanery, that resulted in the Evergrande collapse.

The fact that the US can't build high-speed rail......

China is not "communist" by your definition above.

Your ideology has been predicting China's collapse for ages.

The only real problem in China currently is the CCP's handling of the covid pandemic, which might shake confidence in the government.

These companies were private, unlike many successful SOEs in China...and GM had to be bailed out in the GFC.

The "invisible hand" only worked with lots of small producers all competing in the market.

But the small producers are eventually swallowed up by competitors, creating efficiencies of scale; meanwhile market failure in essentials is rife.

The "invisible hand" is obsolete in a world with huge conglomerates and global supply chains.

China morphed into a hybrid economy after the failure of Mao’s system in the 1960s. The regime looked at what happened to the Soviet Union and toward more of a market system. Of late Xi is moving toward the centralized system which will be to his and the country’s detriment.

~ This is what Gordon Chang predicted in his book ' The Coming Collapse of China'. He admits that his time-line was off , but points out that he did not anticipate the endless cooperation China received by the West .

You ignored most of my post.

The free market is a good servant but a bad master.
