Why do you and @kriman think that Trump should be held above the law and why do you think it was okay that he tried to overthrow the election?

I am not holding him above the law. At this point, it’s a question of whether or not our democratic system survives.

If government offices can use the FBI, the DOJ and the local legal systems to silence their political opponents, our system of government is doomed.

Yes. If we don't stand up to Trump and his attempts to destroy our democratic system, it may not survive. I agree. Hence why we shouldn't do as you suggest and hold him above the law . . . which, yes, is exactly what you are suggesting.

Good thing that isn't what's happening. What ACTUALLY happened is that Trump tried to over the democratic system that you CLAIM to care about, and you are upset that he's being held to task for doing so.

If Trump is on the ballot and some of our citizens vote for him -- that will be the true test of our democracy.

I gave it the audio book a try. There were actually some entertaining things about it, particularly the setting. But all of the protagonists basically had the same personality and so did all of the antagonists. There are basically only two characters in the book, wearing different masks, and all comically overexaggerated in every way. But John Galt and the other "heroes" of the story (which she ripped off from another book, by the way) at least provide something of value with their businesses. They later "strike" and withhold that value, but they weren't selling steaks over the mail or selling fake university scams, so it is ridiculous to compare them to a conman like Trump. Trump is also obsessed with public image . . . which Rearden and the other "heroes" of the novel HATED to even so much as consider.

Another day and more cluster bombs being dropped in the desperate hopes of one bomb preventing Trump from being president again. That is the reason behind all the lame indictments.

None of the indictments prevent him from running. And if you thought they were "lame," you'd be able to discuss them. You aren't. All you are doing is plugging your ears and quoting your favorite bumper stickers. But, hey, good luck with your wannabe fascist candidate.

You will see a lot more votes for Trump than just some. This is what the Privileged Class and their minions are terrified of.

While I am sure you are correct, it does make me depressed to see so many people outright supporting the end of our democracy.

Our democracy was damaged when the justice department was weaponized against Trump.

Come back with evidence. Meanwhile, Trump ACTUALLY tried to wipe his ass with the Constitution and overthrow our democracy, and you don't give a ****.

So he should be held to the rule of law and you no longer have a problem with that! Awesome! I'm glad you changed your mind!

Supporting Trump (who is part of the Privileged Class that you fake caring about) will end America's democracy.

that is not the problem here legally for the prosecution. Their main problem is with the 19 or so defendants who were indicted. Trump may server, or have a separate trial, from Rudy, Sidney, Mark Meadows, and a few others. Most of the local people indicted will probably be arraigned and enter a plea but will have their attorneys to come up with some sort of plea deal and testify against DJT or any of the other codefendants.

Wait, so do you want him to be held under the rule of law for his attempts to overthrow the election or not?

That is the primary results, not the general election BTW.

But for argument's sake, what will the GOP do if DJT is convicted on two of the indictments he is facing? We have a state indictment in NYC that is coming up in March 2024. We have the Documents Case in Federal Court in Miami that is coming up in May 2024. If DJT is convicted on all or most of the charges in these two trials, would the GOP allow DJT, assuming he is the presumptive nominee at that time, to become the official GOP Presidential Candidate or no? That is the real question here.

I think our democratic system will survive even if Trump is convicted on all or most counts that he is facing in all four indictments. The key question is whether or not the GOP will allow him to become the GOP Presidential Nomination if he is convicted in NYC and in the Document's case in Miami.
