The number of Americans struggling to put enough food on the table for themselves and their families has been growing in recent years, reaching a rate of 12.8 percent of households in 2022, according to data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). "The White House wants to tout the success of Bidenomics. The risk is that it rings hollow for many households that continue to struggle under the weight of the administration's policies," Gift added. A recent Gallup analysis found that the U.S. had the highest rate of people struggling to buy enough food than any other G7 countries, with one in four Americans saying there had been times in the past 12 months when they did not have enough money to procure the food they needed. https://www.newsweek.com/hunger-has-increased-under-joe-biden-1893093 Wow, great job joe. Easy to see why they can't campaign on accomplishments and once again have to run a doom and gloom anti trump campaign because they have nothing of merit to stand on. It's amazing how fast we can slide with a democrat president.
And? Anybody who doesn't like it is free to vote Biden out in November... ^Problem solved! ***Based on this "hunger increase", Biden is headed to a 538-0 Loss in the EC... Uncle Joe, we jardly knew ye...
Threads like this do have an importance in the US. We do need to do better, but something that's been puzzling me a little is the many complaints, mostly from the "right", about this an other inflation related topics. Exactly what do you think Biden should do? What policy should the Biden administration enact to offset inflation? What actions would a Republican administration enact to correct this? The most effective and quickly enacted policies would be price freezes, where the price of everything is fixed by the government, but do we really want that? And please don't bring up drilling for oil domestically, that is a ridiculous point. When the price of oil comes down, US oil production drops. And we are extracting more oil per day than any point in history. That itself isn't the problem.
Rightists have no idea or clue what to do. They just blame everything on the left and libs cause of their feelings and deep love for Mango Mussolini.
Question - Do you just think a president has little/no impact on the economy in general? my answers 1. Control spending and foreign spending so we don't continually spend more than we take in as a country 2. Stop letting massive amounts of illegal aliens into our country which absorbs massive funds that could be used to offset inflation and support manufacturing and farming here through incentives to companies and individuals doing so 3. Stop raising min wage as a reaction to other prices rising and instead increase funding to impoverished to help fund housing and food. That would be a great start!
Bit confusing, your blaming the current Administration for hunger in America but also want them to cut spending to do such as address the hunger issue? You also recommend reallocating funding away from area to reallocate it elsewhere all along while recommending cutting spending?
From what you quoted: Why make stuff up and lie? Why lie about me wanting to cut spending when I literally say, word for word, "increase funding to impoverished to help with housing and food" ?
It's a fair question and what should've happened is he never should have attack oil early on and could've put an all-out war to keep gas pricing down, which would've have substantially lowered inflation when it was sky rocketing. He corrected somewhat but still won't commit to allowing America to fully utilize its most abundant resource. It's like he's trying to play both sides and it's costing American lower and middle class. Now he's moved to Natural gas, again dangerous game down the line this fall. If we can all be honest, the last round of Covid funding was a major mistake, it still hasn't been used and put inflation into hyper drive when the world was going back to work. Then lastly he let his lefty governors play politics staying closed down even after he got elected. I get they wanted the people to feel the pain to get them to vote for Biden but stringing it out 5 to 6 months again put inflation on hyperdrive.
Where in the following did you author “increase funding to impoverished with housing and food?” “my answers 1. Control spending and foreign spending so we don't continually spend more than we take in as a country 2. Stop letting massive amounts of illegal aliens into our country which absorbs massive funds that could be used to offset inflation and support manufacturing and farming here through incentives to companies and individuals doing so 3. According to economists the largest factor in elevated food costs are corporate earnings. What do you propose Biden do about that? What has the Republican led house done about that? And what does your parties candidate propose be done about that? I agree we need to implement new direct payments to help families and individuals and families that are food insecure but that doesn’t seem to be a solution either party is looking at and Republicans actually want to cut many of the programs that do this. Along with this we need to eliminate unhealthy food and soda from being able to be purchased under these programs as it leads to health issues which the taxpayers then have to pay for again — but corporations own both parties and the likelihood of that happening is near zero.
The irony of telling someone you await their deflections while presenting nothing but deflections and excuses. Ill answer once you tell us why hunger is increasing under Biden (the actual thread topic)? I eagerly await your blame of everyone but Biden.
I revised my post after I saw you support food subsidies. Feel free to respond to the new post And I did answer. Corporate profits What do you propose he does?
1. Control spending and foreign spending so we don't continually spend more than we take in as a country 2. Stop letting massive amounts of illegal aliens into our country which absorbs massive funds that could be used to offset inflation and support manufacturing and farming here through incentives to companies and individuals doing so 3. Stop raising min wage as a reaction to other prices rising and instead increase funding to impoverished to help fund housing and food.” I think the 3 things above would benefit ANY president and also our economy and inflation numbers. Regarding cooperate profits, I would want to examine the profit margins food companies have before making any decision. I am not easily finding that information at the moment.
First, thanks for the well thought out answer! I do NOT think the president alone has a great impact on the economy. Congress has more, but in the free market we love (?) there are much more determinate factors. Not saying politicians can't have an impact, but it is minimal compared to other factors. I see your point with your three answers, especially with the third point. Problem is that usually min wage is increased after the inflation has already increased, and the people at the lower end of the wage spectrum get hit the hardest, hence the increases in min wage. I'll look for charts that show min wage and inflation, but I'll bet the min wage is lagging inflation significantly. Slippery slopes all over the place! Good points, thanks!
I just feel when we announce min wage hikes, landlords and and other vital service providers hike their rates up too and then it puts all the pressure on a business that already had small profit margins. I'd rather cut spending in a different area and increase spending on social security net for our lower incomes which while expensive, IMO has a lower overall impact on inflation.
Pondering this gives me a different understanding of why people could sometimes favor more socialistic approaches. Don't get me wrong, I like the system we have, that promotes hard work and innovation, but there are downfalls. I think our system in the US works so well because we incorporate ideas from different systems, socialistic here, capitalistic there. It is always a "balancing act". (pun intended) Careful! Some around here might label you as a Socialist! LOL!
Well you see, the transition to EVs and high gas prices will price poor people out of cars altogether so they can save lots of money by not having any cars and bicycling to work which will get those fat fast food eating slobs into shape! Win win. and as soon as we can get fast food wages up to $30 bucks an hour we can get poor people to stop eating crappy altogether! who says the Democrat Party isn’t for the poor people??
We're paying to feed the illegals while Americans go hungry. We're paying for Ukrainian pensions while Americans to hungry. We're paying for gender programs in other countries while Americans go hungry. And 10 months ago Biden finally stopped sending money to the Wuhan virus creation lab while Americans were going hungry.
