Actually Moon, non-Ashkenazi Jews now make up more than half of the Jewish portion of the Israeli population. I agree that in 1947 most of the population were Ashkenazis from Europe and that the large majority of American Jews are of that heritage, but the backlash in Muslim countries forced almost all the Sephardim to immigrate to Israel where they proceeded to have large families (on average) than the Ashkenazis. The more Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Ashkenazis also tended to have large families than their moderate equivalents (with obvious political consequences).

If you add in the Falashas or Beta Israels (2.2%) , the non-Ashkenazis are now 52.7% of the Jewish population of Israel. It is true that the Ashkenazis still dominate the political and business communities of Israel; in fact, I don't believe a non-Ashkenazi has become the leader of Israel yet.

No one is stopping the Palestinians from living in the "region" other than the Arab states who prevent them from immigrating back to their country, and keep them in camps when they do. Majority of Israelis were born in Israel. The majority of the immigrants to Israel came from arab countries.
