Obama is so vulnerable right now that 2012 is the GOP's race to win or lose. If they manage things even fairly well, they own him. All they have to do is coordinate a decent strategy and avoid some mistakes. Right now, they seem determined to f*ck this up but once they have their nominee that will hopefully change.

    1. Realize who already has title on what real estate and go for the open land.

The GOP is going to get the Conservative vote no matter what. Even if the economy surges, all wars end, unemployment goes to zero and angels come down singing Obama's name, they will vote against him. This includes the vast majority of Tea Partiers and Libertarians.
Obama is going to get the TrueBlue Dems, Far Left Liberals, Union Workers, Gay and Black vote. Period.

That leaves Reagan Democrats, Moderates, Independents and maybe the Hispanic vote up for grabs.

So they can almost ignore their base and they should. Tea Partiers can claim they'll refuse to vote if the GOP goes with Romney (and several here have!) but come election day, are they going to give Obama another term out of spite? Doubtful.

They need to end this war that Conservatives have declared on all those Independents, Moderates etc... who are not "Conservative Enough" (i.e. agrees with them on absolutely everything) if they want to win. This means that Bachman can't be on the ticket. Paul is great. He's honest. And he's unelectable. Perry would be okay but he has some HUGE challenges that might drive away the very folks needed to win an election. The only people who don't / wouldn't see the Reincarnation of "W" in Perry, are people who would already vote GOP anyway.
Romney would be the smartest choice so far but of GEEZ wouldn't it be great if they could come up with a last minute entry that was better. Oh well.
For now, Romney would be the smartest choice.

    2. Get Smart on VP. McCain actually had the right idea with Palin, he just had the wrong candidate. How many Dems, Libs, Mods & Indies think Bachmann or Palin are genuinely intelligent? None I know of. They're probably out there but they're the minority. The only people who love Palin or Bachmann are smart, are people whose vote is 100% guaranteed GOP anyway.
But look at Susana Martinez of NM. She actually is smart! She's strong, talented, was prosecutor of the year, so Conservative that the Tea Partiers would drink her like kool-aid and Hispanic. Okay, she's light on experience but that doesn't seem to be a big deal to Palin supporters and obviously wasn't to Obama supporters. Someone like Martinez would bring in women, Hispanics, Conservatives and a lot of Independents.

    3. Gay marriage? Abortion? Gun laws? Who Cares! One of the biggest mistakes a couple of GOP candidates are making right now, is focusing on social issues. People who are out of work, could give a flying fartsicle about gay marriage. It's the economy stupid. They need to focus on that one thing like a laser.

    4. Don't Excuse Bush. Right now, Obama is doing a great job of deflection. According to several polls, over 60% of the country still believes the Bush and the GOP are major contributing facotrs to the current situation. I'm surprised but oh well. So instead of blaming Obama, they would do better to flow with it. Something along the lines of:
"Well sure, President Obama was left a challenging situation. Obviously he wasn't the right guy to handle it because he's just made it worse. So as your next president, it will be my job to show you how we can turn things around."

    5. Poach From His Previous Voters. One of the areas in which Obama is most vulnerable, is that he hasn't been Liberal enough. Now that OBL is out, why are we still in Afghanistan? I sure as hell don't support this. Or Iraq. Find the issues that even Conservatives could stomach and capitalize on them.
"I've supported our troops but now we've done what we need to do. We don't need to stay there and spend all that money, just to make an inexperienced president look more presidential.
Find the promises that he broke to Liberals and see if, spun just a bit, they would be something Conservatives would actually want.

If the GOP can avoid going with Bachmann or some other disaster candidate, pick a good VP, stop alienating everyone who isn't a Rush listener, avoid making this about social issues and focus on what people care about - the economy, then the WH should easily be theirs for the taking.

    We'll see.

You mention Paul but he most assuredly covers 1, 3, 4 and 5 currently considering his stances... Perry/Bach are too Bible Thumping, Romney is too much like Obama, Santorum is a Warmonger, Newt is from what I percieve out of the race and Cain doesn't offer anything new while fading with time.

It's either choose Paul or elect a Warmongering/Entitlement President currently with the Dems vs Reps.

We need to go with the letter 'R' as with Ronald Reagan, and that represents 'righty' and 'Republican'. So I say the perfect ticket to bring back 'Reganism' would be........'Ryan-Rubio'! Rubio would help cement the Latino vote. :-D

Honestly...you people are dreaming in technicolor.

What is destroying the Republican Party are the T-Baggers.

Until those of you with the capacity to think, distance yourselves from these faux-Republicans who will knife ANYONE in the back in order to get their way, you are all doomed.

But hey...You Republican could always continue to prostate yourselves for these animals...I mean EVERYONE KNOWS Bachmann would be a GREAT President...right?

Oh and Libby...Reagan was a crappy 'B' actor who was upstaged by a chimp. He was also a corporate shill WAY before he ever became "Ronnie-Raygun". His economic policies were so bad and so destructive, that they had to do an about-face with them half way through his presidency.

So for arguments sake, let's say you're right. The only "right" candidate is Paul. Are you not going to vote GOP or not vote at all, if say, Romney is the nominee?
I would argue Paul is VERY unelectible.
Therefore, in your scenario Obama gets a second term.

Or Perry or Romney get in.. thats what will most likely happen.. eitherway.. get ready for more of the same Obushma policy.. with slight variations.. if Romney gets in.. expect more corporate rights , less corporate taxes and regulations, more bank deregulation. If Perry gets in expect what Romney does with stadium prayer sessions asking god why the hell its not working.

NoParty; To me your post is right on, but I feel those guiding the candidates feel the same way.

    1- Well said and perfect....

2- Obviously the VP choice is important, but keep in mind few have ever turned an election, on election day, Palin the best example on 2008, people tend to vote for or against the Presidential Candidate. I also agree Governor Martinez would be a good choice, especially having lived in NM, the past 10 years and that a Latino, a Latina, also vital this election (a woman), but she is reasonable new as a Governor and not well known, even to Latino's outside NM. I would suggest, Senator Rubio from Florida (swing State), well known Nationally and would also carry NM, AZ and NV, also swing States. Frankly this election, it would be impossible to pick up California.

3- Here your absolutely correct and one end result will always alienating some voters, but to date and for some time, ALL Candidates are in Primary mode, speaking to local demographics. I'd also suggest, National Media, guide what is discussed and to them, what you have mentioned are important.

4- Same problem here, media and Republican opposition in general, will always try to bring Bush's record to front. I do think however, there are good answers that could be used to turn the tables back on them.

5- I slightly disagree here, in that pointing out the obvious flaws with a political record, has never worked to influence the undecided, which is what your talking about.

At this point (very early) I'm giving Perry a 50% chance, Bachman/Gingrich about a 30%, Ron Paul and Romney, I'm sorry, a -0-% chance to make it through the primaries. Of course there are still a few, that might run, that could change everything.....

    1) wrong, in 2008 in certain key states substantial numbers of conservative voters who voted for Bush in 2004 sat at home as they disliked McCain to the point of just not voting

    2) Palin was the reason the 52.7% that Obama garnered was not 57.2%. Palin called home some of the conservative base which fled from McCain

    3) agreed - its the economy PERIOD

    4) no need to defend Bush, Obama has wrung that dew rag dry

    5) some, but only some are open to poaching. some of the younger new voters may switch, but most will just sit at home. still that is a plus for the GOP. Hispanics are definitely poachable, Jews are poachable, Blacks are a huge waste of time for the GOP to target.

Thinking about the last election cycle, and having come to the conclusion that the GOP listened to opinions like yours, also brought forth by the MSM, I suspect they may just do what the GOP does, and cave to the middle, getting behind someone to nominate for not the Conservatives, but the middle of the roadsters, as well as some Dems who pretend to consider voting for a more palatable R...until they find out they've been had, once again.
And then the cycle shall begin anew.
Cons upset with the GOP, looking for a 'true' Conservative, having dissed the only candidate who not only could unite this nation once again, but also bring her back to her former glory, for whom the Constitution isn't just something to be mentioned when its convenient, Ron Paul.

Some cons indeed sat that one out, but many more came out to vote against Obama, and that is what the GOP will be counting on again.
If we had more viable parties, we wouldn't have this dilemma.

An even easier way -- 1) create as much uncertainty and lack of confidence in the economy and government as possible 2) blame Obama for the consequences.

This strategy has proved quite successful (from the GOP viewpoint) with the recent debt ceiling extortion fiasco.

If its the economy and MONEY as always.

Romney has x100 more than Paul.

    Get over it.

The only way Paul wins is another anti establishment vote that destroys this nation and if all the other candidates die off ..which actually is more likely to happen to PAUL.

Another career politician..who never has led in ANY capacity.
    Let executives lead..
    Let congress do NOTHING.

    Path to success.

since you have defaulted to another tiresome phony racist argument, you clearly are admitting that my points are correct. thank you.

since there is no Obama record worth bragging about, I suspect that this type of argumentation is what we will see continuously against Perry in 2012. Fortunately, with their stupid arguments, the Left is finally put the noose around their neck, and they will dangling and flopping and asphyxiating all thru 2012. (and there you go, I am sure you will find that to be a "lynching" allusion in your fevered Leftist brain)

and by the way, there is nothing racial about a dew rag, most people who jog in the heat, use a dew rag - it absorbs the sweat. I use one every morning when I go for a run.

I only think that is a half truth, yes as always the economy is the main issue and right now it favors the GOP as voters only see the effects, not the reasons why (which are both sides doing), but at the same time I don't think 'moderates' will vote for someone with a very strong social conservative viewpoint. That's the reason why the Bachmann's and Palin's of the race will not have a major chance of actually winning, as they seem, I can't think of a better word, moronic. Like Bachmann claiming that seperation of Church and State is NOT constitutional, or the major errors Sarah Palin made on the campaign tour.
So a social moderate is also important if the GOP want to beat Obama.

lets see.. secretary of the treasury for example

    Giethner.. Banker executive

    Paulson.. Investment banker exec

    Snow.. CEO CSX

    O'neil CEO Alcoa

Summers World bank exec.. deregulator the hallowed derivative trading shell game

Rubin... Goldman sachs exec, Citibank exec..

The list goes on and on.. from here you can go to congress and the senate and to key regulator posts of all kinds.. hows "letting the execs lead the way working so far?

Its what the Dems fed on so successfully last time around.
Not sure if the GOP could carry it to fruition. Seems they are their own worst enemy.

Dems sure did run on the failing of the republicans.. from the economy and education to warmongering and deciet. Its too bad they merely upped the ante in the same fashion.

It doesnt matter which party wins.. if its the same ole Obama's Boehners Reids and Cantors we re-elect.. this country is done

Well the Philosophy of Romney and Obama aren't that different at all to a large degree so if he did get the Nomination it would be a choice between Status Quo or Status Quo.

I'd probably do a Write In.
