The majority of folks want a balanced budget amendment, look who's blocking it. The very same people that will get booted out of the Senate come next November. A full 2/3rds of Americans favor a balanced budget amendment, but there goes the obstructionist Democrats yet again. 2012 is going to be part 2 of 2010.

"Senators voted down the Democratic plan 79-21, with only one Republican -Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada - supporting the measure. The Republican version was defeated along a party-line vote of 53-47. The amendments needed a two-thirds majority to pass, and neither came close."

that is not a majority, only a filibuster proof vote is majority according to the rules.

How does this work exactly? Can jobs be created by vote?

Yea, like that is going to happen. There are no alternatives to dollar and to government bonds as 0% risk investment.

Err...the government IS ducking its responsibility to live within its means.

Who's the disingenuous idiot who insults our intelligence with this bull(*)(*)(*)(*)?

Yes, we do need to amend the Constitution to restore fiscal sanity and discipline in Washington. The spendthrifts on each end of Pennsylvania are out of control - cut their card...

Why are you against accountability LM? Why on earth would you not want a balanced budget?

If you have no answer to those questions, you will know why this nation is on the brink of financial disaster.

When will the Senate vote on a budget? Count the days and that's how long it will take to get the "jobs" bill voted on.

Get a handle on the debt and the jobs will come back. Besides the first stimulus failed to stop unemployment from for going above 9% for the longest sustained time in history since the great depression, why would we want more of that. As with the first stimulus, the Democrats "jobs" bill is simply more funding to keep government union workers employed. Since the crash the Government workers unemployment has remained UNDER 5% except for a month or two. Meanwhile the taxpayers who fund those jobs has remained OVER 9% for most of the time.

An unenlightened self serving government workers "jobs" bill at the expense of taxpayers AGAIN has little interest with the American people except for the government workers.

Why aren't Newt and Romney running on a balanced budget amendment?

They could potentially get it done in about a years time if they are elected.....

What candidate would promote a balanced budget amendment? Ron Paul?

As you may recall, Gingrich didn't need a BBA to balance the budget while he was Speaker.

Meanwhile, all Obama has done is talk about fiscal responsibility...

I can't promote any of them, I'll concentrate on 13 more seats in the Senate and 19 in the House to give Republicans 60% or better in both Houses. Then it won't matter who's in the White House.

I'm not convinced congress will actually commit to a balance budget amendment if they know it will pass.

I take the recent efforts as political theater.

I do agree with you there. I like to call it Political Kabuki Theater. My question is how do we fix it?
