I think that the title is both inflammatory and baseless. The guy was homeless, and there is no evidence to support the assumption he is a "leftist" A title like "Man throws tomato at sarah palin" is far more accurate, and is far less inflammatory as well.

Ps. obviously it is not possible to prove that beyond a doubt.

I think this thread needs a title change. Since all signs now point to the fact that this man was mentally unstable, and political views had nothing to do with it.

While I can see the reaction to the insensitivity of questioning TheHat's credibility in his miscarriage thread (which still seemed not kosher to me), the guy was a jerk. IMO and others.

i would like to ask a question. i have over a period of months that extend to the time before Southpaw was a mod and advisor, reported him at least 10 times and he has never been had a post deleted nor edited. i reported him twice today for things that i have been edited for and warned and infracted and he never gets anything. i have yet to see anything he writes that i have reported edited. yesterday i was infracted and had posts deleted and the thread was closed. in that thread i was attacked and nothing was done about it for a long time. when i attack in response to the non mod response than i get creamed. Southpaw gets away with every rude thing he says and gets nothing. am i to assume that he is somehow above the rest of us. just exactly who's ass does one have to kiss to get favored treatment like he gets?

here is a response you your answers on my list. i made the points you wanted and did so without attacking you.

the thread in question is general. it is not pointed. the title of that thread is The Conservative Philosophy. i made a list of generalizations of how i see the conservative philosophy. that is how i see them. i repeated one several times. say you are pro life to make yourself feel better. i did so after each point where i see that conservatives do not respect life. they protect a fetus but send that 18 year old fetus off to war. that same fetus it it commits a crime they will kill it. if that fetus was created by rape or incest is less of a life and can be aborted.

the points i make are not a scholarly study. they are my view of the conservative. i do not see them as creative and they are in my opinion hive minded.

if you make a thread the liberal philosophy i would do and say the same types of things.

it was not an attack on conservatives it is my Opinion. the way you responded the last time shows a clear headed response from you. you don't agree and said why. that is the type of response i would expect from you. i read some of your posts and they are usually well spoken. you do tend to get snippy with me. maybe you do think i am okay i will accept that.

your post was an insult. you do that to me regularly and i grow weary of that. you hide than yet they are there. i do have been warned and infracted for less. you will not be infracted. you will continue to get away with this as you have zero class when it comes to most of your posts toward me. if you do not like me which is obvious from your continued attacks do not respond to my posts.

I am not reporting this. I think the content is actually fine. But I am calling it to your attention to try and illustrate a point. Even though I might offend you and you might not understand what I am saying. I am gonna say it for whatever it might be worth. Today or in the future.

This is a good example of moderator participation in discussions that sets a certain, disrespectful tone for the forum. If moderators are talking freely about "race baiters", then subsequent warnings and infractions given to members...particularly members of color really don't have any credibility. Not only does that kind of communication probably reveal something about how a staff person feels about minorities, it establishes the appearance of tolerance (and even support) for racist ideation and content. Whether it is "true" or not. It undermines authority or moral high ground for enforcement of rules. Why? Because, as I said before...sometimes there is some really offensive content posted by members...and you have a staff person (JP5 rather frequently) who is actively participating in the folder, expressing "interesting" views themselves. And it's not like the content of the staff is actually offensive; I have never witnessed that. But staff can't then argue that the offensive content is not "seen" and that it must be "reported". No. It is clearly seen when staff are actively participating in the discussion. And it is clearly passed over by staff. And if staff are also using provocative terms like "race baiters", this is problematic in terms of then trying to scold other members for "insults" and other offensive comments or behaviors.

Hypothetically, if you had staff referring to people as "Pallies" or Leftists or wingnuts, that would be a problem. Not because there is something wrong with their opinion. Not because they should not have a right to express their opinion. But because it presents a conflict of interest in term enforcement of rules.

I'm gonna go further just to make a point. I think that some of the opinions and expressions of JP5 reveals racist ideation. Not some sort of hate for people of other races. Not some sort of bad person vibe. No. But uninformed, stereotypical views of minorities, particularly Blacks. That is part of racism. Along with an offensive, insensitivity to issues that get raised. It's a form of racism, Southpaw. And the fact that other staff don't really see it or address it, speaks volumes for the tone of the forum. The same goes for some of the homophobic content that has been allowed in the past.

I understand that staff do not see everything. So I am not talking about that. I am talking about stuff that is clearly seen.

I understand that there is a value of freedom of speech. I think that is cool.

But as Ronin pointed out, it's not really a freedom of speech thing. Because if Black folks here started clowning on white folks or Russians or conservatives or racist images, in the same way that some others get a pass on...we would get censored fairly quickly. As we should. The thing is, that it becomes clear then that "freedom of speech" is differentially viewed and enforced...depending upon the discretion of the staff. Which is also as it should be. But that becomes an issue "if" the staff is old or conservative or not up to speed on race and racism, gender and sexism or whatever. Because enforcement is subjective. And it will reflect the background and perspectives of the staff. Which is also fine. But not objective. And not "correct". And not facilitative of any sort of "respectful" discussion.
