The fact that the western world no longer necessitates man as hunter/provider does not mean the biological drive toward that behavior is no longer there. Why do you think rich guys get so many women? On an unconscious level, they are demonstrating the ability to provide. And women are instinctually drawn to that. All that expensive cars, jewelry, and flashy accessories are is a social manifestation of the lower animal drive to demonstrate the ability to provide sufficiently for a mate and offspring.

hahaha, correlation does not equal causation. My father was always a sensitive man, it rubbed off on me I suppose. And my father was sensitive because his father was a soldier always away from home and so his mother primarily raised him.

On that note, though, it's been said that religion has been used, particularly in the past, to control the people. When religion is the head of state, and religion controls your hopes for a good afterlife, you follow suit. This is nothing against religion, only kings and queens who have used it for political aims. That's also not to say this is a problem nowadays, with the separation of church an state - the state can no longer threaten your afterlife. So religion can no longer be used to control people, at least not at the state level.
