Too many people are putting all their faith in large corporations and their ability to be the light at the end of the tunnel.

Personally, I've few issues with large corps (excluding banks), but there are too many people on this board who think that corporations are the answer to their prayers...

    They are not.

If this was the government, there'd be a freaking explosion of "lib / libturd / socialist / progressive / communist / Orwelian" BS.

But it'll be fine, 'cos it's a company / companies.

Pretty much...In the right wing extremists mind its perfectly ok for a private company to butt into your private life but its "communist" for the government to do it. Hypocrisy much?

That also is an unnecessary invasion of privacy.

Pretty crappy way to start of a relationship with a new employee. I can't imagine this trend will continue.

    But please no new laws.

Mike, I honestly haven't heard of such a thing and condemn it equally.

Are you going to condemn this? WHat does "I am against this" mean? It seems a bit wishy washy to me.

I did see that last week, that was pretty (*)(*)(*)(*) sweet. I like being able to see Mars at night too lately. Cool stuff.

    Complete invasion of privacy.

What the employer should care about is an employees ability to separate their private life from their work life. What that should mean is that anything on Facebook that is viewable by public is fair criteria on which to judge. Everything that's private is private....and would not reflect on the employee or his/her representation of the employer.

There are already interview questions that are legally barred from being asked such as "What religion do you practice?" that would easily be answered by looking at someone's private Facebook entries.....and so asking to see the private side of someone's Facebook is basically the same as asking all these illegal questions.

I am a business owner and I agree. What people do on their own time is their own business. hell I had two employees who hated each other, I used to tell them, as long as you work together here that is fine, if you want to kick each others ass when you get out of work that is your choice, but personal life and your work life don't intermingle. Now don't get me wrong, you can be friends etc with employees or employers but that is different.

I wouldn't allow them to do it, although my Facebook is completely benign. Nothing offensive at all. Depends on how desperate I was in finding a job;) An employer should be able to do a search on you to see if you've popped up in any situations that would make your character seem fishy. No different than looking up your arrest record, if you have one. Finding obscene picture says a lot about your character, since once you're hired, you are representing the company(depending on position).

The only "large corporation" I see mentioned by name in the articles is the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. So much for those evil private corporations. If I were interviewing and asked someone for their password and they gave it to me I would say "No thanks, you're too stupid to work for me."
