The Next Great Secession

We are an actual democracy now. Yes, there are circumstances where I might be ok with a state leaving the Union if the vast majority really want to.

But that is the same as it has always been. States have always been able to leave. They just cant leave unilaterally. That is what the civil war proved.

 

Oh give me a break, this scenario is so unlikely I question anyone who believes it. The south is not seceeding nor will they ever, at least for the reasons you suggest. Where did you even come up with this garbage?

 

The North was also in favor of secession at the time the South actually seceded. I believe it was the North that wished to secede first.

 

Utah is still a very white state. I'm sure that will change once they completely overrun the others, which is well under way.

Anyway, once the Southwestern states officially become the Hispanic States of America, there is no way they are going to try to secede. Not a chance. Who will pay for their welfare programs? They need whites just like parasites need a healthy host body.

 

The last Secession movement didn't end up doing too well; what makes the OP think a future one would do any better?

Because the federal government isn't going to do what it did to the first one, launch an all out war against the chicanos and destroy them in order to protect the fed's revenues.

Modern Americans aren't going to give up their lives trying to prevent a state from leaving the federal union and who could blame them? A major mistake was made in the 19th century over this secession issue and the fed knows it as it continues trying to justify the extermination of an entire culture over a false pretense of slavery.

 

Ten years from now on it's present course, America's Federal Empire which includes China and multinational corporations will have divided America into sectors, feature a permanent working underclass, a non existent middle class destroyed, a country acting as a service industry nation with no industrial base of it's own and completely reliant on foreign imports for it's every day needs and a cooperate tax rate at least at 39% and growing.

Who would want to stay here let alone move here? And why wouldn't any state strongly desire to leave such a situation?

The neocon conservatives on this thread who are dismissing this as nonsense and who argue with liberals here in just a few short hours from now will be partying with the same liberals and exchanging high fives and back slaps with them. Their Republican party that they support will continue catering to it's special interests in the meantime.

 

We can agree on that. Still, though, any future secession would mean the end of the Republic. It's not worth fighting over to preserve. Who wants to fight and die to try and keep territories populated by your polar cultural opposites in "your" country? If the Southwest breaks away, they would not do so at the behest of Mexico; they would do so on their own recognizance, and they would probably be looking to invade Mexico and topple its corrupt government.

California is too big to go to the new Aztlan. It would divide into a northern and southern half. Anyway, with the southwest gone, I predict that many northern, blue-voting states would start negotiations with Canada to apply as new provinces. United Canada would then become the new north American superstate, while Aztlan, with a weak central government and a poor and chaotic neighbor to the south, would join the ranks of politically unstable South American countries.

I don't know what the Mexican invaders think the Texans will do when they try to turn Texas over to the most corrupt nation in the world. We have millions of real Texans left and millions of retired and active military that would sweep the wetbacks from the streets in a couple of days and then throw the surviving Mexicans into the river.

I have a lot of Mexican friends so I hope we don't have to throw them back.

Most of those states don't have the money to function as a independent nation. They won't last if they leave the union. The only reason the confederacy lasted as long as it did was because it had a much needed resource, cotton.

The southwest is vast deserts and has nothing...

 

The south also had sugar and an agricultural base ready to serve the world. It had a large enough population of around 12 million in circa 1861 and it's low tariffs / free trade policies meant it could have gotten everything else it needed from Europe.

You don't seem to grasp the bleak picture of what America is going to be like in another ten years on it's present course at all, do you?

The reason it cant happen is that America is still too mixed. It is a melting pot in the literal sense. There is no area populated by a single race that agrees on everything. Dreams of Secession are less likely than a meteor strike.

Hispanics themselves are not a "race"...it's a general term used to describe several different ethnicities...many of them hybrids of each other. Mexicans themselves are mostly part white as a huge portion of them have Spanish (European) ancestry.

And many Hispanics want absolutely nothing to do with Hispanics from another Hispanic country.

Hondurans consider themselves Hondurans, not Hispanics. Guatemalans consider themselves Guatemalans, not Hispanics. And neither has any great love for one another or Mexicans.

Much like Germans and French. Not the best of friends but both Caucasian.
