According to Christianity, God is a all-knowing, all benevolent being......

But, as I was reading, Exodus, I found something that I found quite disturbing......Well not that disturbing, since I am against organized religion anyway.....

What I found was that while performing the plagues to force Pharaoh to release the Hebrews, god purposely hardened Pharaoh's heart to make him refuse. This would mean that god punished the Egyptians for something that he himself forced. There are many examples of these types of contradictions.

My question is......If god is so good, why would he purposely cause Pharaoh to refuse to release the jews, just so he could punish the eqyptians more?

The passage is from Exodus 9:12.

Because he's a megalomaniac (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) who wants to prove he's powerful by creating a situation that would allow him to do just that.

Another example of this found in the Roman Catholic faith......

Under Catholic Dogma, outside of suicide, murder, and other things that are controlled by humanities' free will, only God controls death. If you die of natural causes, are killed by a natural disaster, whatever.....it's because God wants it to happen. So, under this believe, God causes an unbabtised baby to die, and according to catholic dogma, punishes that baby for dying by sending it to purgatory, the first level of Hell.

trust me..some christian here is going to give you the answer..they have an answer to all the insanity..after all it's god's big plan he created just for us..

My father forced me into catholic school and I always questioned the nuns about this crap but it sure got me into a heap of trouble..I did get a great education but feared for my life..those chalkboard pointers make great weapons and the nuns know how to use them..so much for nuns following the teachings of christ..

sometimes I hear god talking out of my butthole but I just ignore him..

It is customary for Holy Scripture to call God's permission His action (JohnDm). Therefore, when the Lord said to Moses, I will harden his heart, this hardness was by way of divine permission. For the Pharoah hardened his own heart through his free choice. Orthodox Study Bible

But you are on a discussion forum is that not how we discuss things with questions and answers? Seems like you are wasting your time here. Have you tried reading a paper or perhaps a nice book? But seriously this is the religion forums and a discussion was started, if we did not participate there would be no forums.

This is the reason why interpretation of the Bible has to made by those who are well verse.

To understand the story we must read the whole chapter just reading one specific verse will not give the reader the whole picture instead it will give the reader all kinds of meaning mainly that God hardened Pharaohs heart.

    .

By reading the first 5 verses we will have a clearer understanding of Exodus 9:10-14

10 And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.

11 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.

12 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.

13 And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

14 For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.

God was referring to the Pharaoh"s already hardened heart that in spite of the proof as presented by Moses, Pharaoh still refuse to let the Hebrews go, and that was the time that God said that He will personally demonstrate to the Pharoah His ultimate power with the coming plagues.

Pharaoh was given every opportunity to listen, believe and let the Hebrews go just like God gave the people of Noah every opportunity and the people refused Him just like the Pharaoh their hearts were hardened.

Same thing happen again, when Jesus Christ presented himself and the people's heart were harden to the point that they have him crucified.

If you hear voices coming out of your butt hole, those voices could easily belong to one of the following:
    1. Lepercun
    2. Genie
    3. Elf
    4. or Satan himself

That is why those nuns were so tough on you.

It's a question of free will. The author of Exodus thought of God as all-powerful, so he portrays God as robbing Pharaoh of his free will. Later development of Judeo/Christian doctrine is that God never robs of our free will. Even Judas had the free will choice to betray Jesus. The fact that God knows ahead of time what we will do with our free will does not rob us of our free will. That concept is predestination, which is an error.

You are a better person because those nuns were tough on you, just like I am a better person because the priests were tough on me.

I also went to one of those modern, liberal schools. There was no discipline and the kids ran the place. Going to Catholic school was a culture shock. I had to crack down and actually learn things.

The bible clearly says that God Hardened Pharaoh's heart.
Quit adding thoughts that are Not there.

Something I would like to know about that story is that after God had killed all The land's Cattle and Horses, Pharaoh was still able to follow the Israelits with chariots and HORSES!!
Where did the horses come from??

I asked the JW's that one time, and they were going to get back to me on it.
Never heard from them on that.

My guess would be he took them from his slave the Isrealites. It clearly says that only the Pharaoh's cattle would die.

    Exodus 9:3 - 9:7
3Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain.

4And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Israel.

5And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land.

6And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.

7And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.

The idea that god is omnificent, and knows all before it happens it also contridicted. God can't cause evil.......Lucifer is evil......So, if god knowingly created Lucifer, it would mean that God caused evil. Or, it means that God did not know that Lucifer would be evil and hence disproves omnificence

Crawdad, that is your Guess, but are you forgetting that the Israelites took all their livestock with them when they left?
Therefore - no horses for the Egyptians.

God is all good that is why He gave His angels free will, this mean that God will not interfere but react to their free will for those angels and humans are not like God, they need the free will to appreciate what being good is all about. Lucifer chose to use his free will to attack God, thus creating evil and God balance that out with goodness, the reward to be pure good is the everlasting Kingdom of Heaven.

You mention the Christian interpretation of God but you describe the Hebraic God. That's why you're confused. The actions described in Exodus are consistent with the Hebraic God. They are not consistent with the Christian God. One is a God of power and authority the other is a God of love.

So then why didn't he give Pharaoh free will? He stole Pharaoh's free will because he's an (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*).

Even when I was Christian, I did not trust the works of Paul. He contridicts the teachings of Christ too much to be taken seriously as a Christian.

My point is that if god's love is unconditional, then there should not be the condition of worship to get into heaven. According to Christian dogma, one must worship god to be allowed into heaven.
