Why is the admin really saying the WOT is over? Is there some political gain to this or a strategic diplomacy of some sort?
I think it's risky and disingenuous to give these kinds of signals when, IMHO, the danger has not diminished.
    What do you think?

They think that they can fool the voting public by telling them that Bozo ended the war on terror.

As much as I dislike Obama I have to say I've never heard him or his administration claim the war on terror is over. This is, after all, why they extended the Patriot Act and have still been chasing down Al-Qaeda and used drones more than anyone else.

I don't think the administration is under the impression that anti western terrorists no longer exist.

What I'm guessing they mean is that we are no longer in danger of a 911 scale type of event happening in the US again.

Pakistan is not our little brother to stick up for. If we left Afghanistan, it would take a lot of momentum out of any terrorists looking for revenge for OBL.

The right in the US is constantly trying to justify the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, and manufacturing threats is the only way to do that, and this is an example of it.

I'm not and I'm about as far right as you can get.
Stop painting every one who disagrees with you with the "right wingnut" paintbrush.

I think we should get out of the middle east entirely and defend only Israel, when or if it's necessary.

as far as I'm concerned the war on terror has always been a big government propaganda campaign to chip away at our freedom..fear is the best way to control the masses..what few terrorist there are aren't worth fighting and if we weren't a bunch of scared wussies it give em less encouragement..

If its over then I DEMAND ALL TSA AGENTS BE FIRED. THEY ARE NOT NEEDED.

Time for Obama's administration to put up or shut up.

It's been widely reported as having come from a senior State Dept official. Hilary called me last night and confirmed it was her.

This was actually the gist of Bush's "Mission Accomplished" speech:

Not that the whole thing was done...

So exactly why are you defending the claim he said the war on terror was over when he clearly did not?

The war on terror was started by us (*)(*)(*)(*)ing around, and it will end when we chose to end these wars. It's up to us, basically.

I never defended the claim about Bush...

The only comment I've made on it was that he didn't say it...
