Yeah, but the terror war propaganda has provided the US executive an imbalance of new powers. If the terror war is over then it's probably because it worked.
Obama is SUPPOSED to "loyal" to dictators? Sorry, that is REPUBLICAN "morality". We all know the Republicans loved Gaddafy because he controlled oil and billions of dollars, and what the CITIZENS in his country wanted makes no difference to the Republicans. Just as long as Gaddafy played ball with the Republican's oil company Masters!
there was never a war on terror, good God,unless you call our government staging events to bring in a police state a "war on terror"...............
War on terror? The "War on Terror" ended January 20th 2008.... America has been waging a "War on Man Caused Disasters" for the past 39 months.
I think we have so completely overused the word "war" in this country that is has long since lost its real meaning. War on drugs, war on terror, war on drunk driving, war on obesity, war on who the heck knows what. We made a huge mistake in 2001 when we made this a war against Islam instead of a concerted diplomatic and military campaign against radical Islamists who would seek to harm the United States. Invading Afghanistan for the sole purpose of killing all of the Al Qaeda members we could find there, including OBL was a wise move. Staying there nation building was a boneheaded afterthought of the Bush administration after he lost interest in finding OBL. Invading Iraq was the single most counterproductive foreign policy decision ever made in this country. We do have enemies. Real clear and present enemies, and, by and large, they are not countries, they are individuals driven by extreme radical religious ideology. Unless it is China, I can't imagine another COUNTRY that we will ever go to WAR against. In the meantime, we must constantly be on guard against religious extremists who would use terror and mass murder as a tactic against us. That was not, is not, nor will it ever be a "war". It will be, from now on, simply a consequence of living on this planet and dealing with the amorphous masses of crazy people who would seek to do us harm.
Perhaps someone in your government finally figured out that you must have a clearly defined enemy before you can have a war with them? And are you saying that after 10 years and near bankrupsy, the WOT has in no war diminished the threat? Christ alive, you've made a real abortion of the job then, you should quit becuase you've failed more than anything.
What Trinity is trying to say is the M.I.C. must not end! The re-cycling of your earnings, via tax and military spend, must not end. You should not be able to: 1. Improve your roads and bridges. 2. Improve your infrastructure. 3. Improve education. 4. Improve the lives of your citizens. Instead, you must continue to: 1. Purchace incredibly expensive bombs and drop them in the ME. 2. Send 18 year old boys to their deaths in the ME. MIC MUST NEVER END!!!* * It's far too profitable for the private contractors.
Quite simple. So Obama can say he won, he brought the troops home, he stabilized the ME, etc. Everything at this point revolves around campaigning. I really hope that nothing happens while he suggests we are safe for political gain.
But, there's no one, with the exception of an anonymous source, saying that the war is over... Still at war with al Qaeda, and they've said as much... *shrug*
So, if we are all standing in line at the grocery store, and some unnamed employee with a microphone proclaims that everybodies groceries are free for the next 100 people, people shouldn't be enraged at the CEO when he says that wasn't true? Here is the thing. If Obama is the Commander and Chief, things get to work both ways. A member of his staff made a claim, a claim that drummed up a whole lot of reaction from the public. Its simply indefensible to say "that doesn't count". If I was Obama, I would be trying to figure out who this unnamed person was.
Is the war on terror over? Will it ever be over? Seems to me that terrorists have existed my entire life. I was 4 years old during the Munich Olympics. I can recall the Beirut Marine barracks bombing. Lockerbie. 9/11. Certainly in this thread no one has been able to produce a single member of the administration stating, on record, that the war on terror is over. Certainly it would appear, in my wise and correct opinion, that it has abated back a bit, at least as far as the US is concerned, as the death of the heads of AQ has occurred over the years.
No reasonable person would be pissed of at the manager or whatever when it was discovered that a random employee jumped and said some bull(*)(*)(*)(*)... Same thing here... And, to top that off, this is one of those "anonymous sources..." No supporting evidence, not so much as a name or even a position that this person holds... Just "an anonymous source said..." Pretty sketchy if you ask me...
