Maybe it's just me, but I seem to recall something about our kicking the shate out of Saddam Hussein before hanging him with his own rope, making Afghanistan another permanent military base, and destroying al-Qaeda while killing Osama bin Laden.

How does that translate into "bringing us to our knees and handing all our liberties over to Uncle Sam"?

And yes, we do have the most powerful military the world has ever seen. I find it funny that so many Americans blatantly fear Muslims. A few of my friends are Muslim. I am Jewish. We get along just fine, and have a lot in common with each other.

 

I don't think that we Americans, as a whole, are weak. I think a better way to describe it is uneducated. At least in terms of politics and our Constitution. A lot of people don't have a basic knowledge of our Constitution and our liberties. Because of this lack of knowledge, losing liberties does not alarm a majority of the population, because they don't know something bad is happening. They just think they're safer.

 

Yes, I completely agree. I'm reading the Qu'ran over the summer so that I actually know what the religion of Islam dictates. I feel like if more people did that then we'd have a better understanding of Muslim society and there would be less fear.

 

There are reasons to fear Muslims. But if you're respectful to them and you don't insult Muhammad or their version of Allah then you're good. But it's not enough to just throw away the constitution and let the government do anything to protect us from them. We should start by not interfering in their affairs anymore.

 

I may minor in Islamic studies in addition to the required minor in a foreign language that I have to with my major in international relations. From excerpts of the Qu'ran that I have read, the beliefs are not black and white, but in shades of gray. It does seem that it is a holy text open to interpretation, which is why you had so many radical adherents in the late 1960's early 1970's in the Middle East do so accordingly.
