Things in Europe can basically move 3 ways: to Paris, to Berlin or south (Athens). Berlin wants a federation, Paris doesn't, he has a different temporary plan. And then there is Athens. What direction do you think Europe should take?
François Hollande and his socialist party control the presidency and parliament. They are the way of the future. Greece can no longer be trusted to lead the charge. They voted pro-bailout and pro-euro with Antonis Samaras and New Democracy, instead of with Alexis Tsipras and Syriza. Merkel can't be trusted either. She wants the EU as her personal, private kingdom. Even the people of Germany have spoken against her in Rhine-Westphalia.
Hopefully it won't go in any of those three directions. Maybe they'll decide to split Europe into two parts - the strong northern economies and the weak southern ones. But I can't see this happening.
Clearly most of you are struggling to remember what Europe is . As you need several years to grasp basics , I shall pop off to see how the Football thread is progressing. Clue : Think of a North -South split and a return by individual States to greater control over non financial matters .
She is not popular and will be voted out soon. BTW a strong Europa is a good idea, but at best without German money.
I agree. Europe can REALLY lead the world if they would just share power equally, instead of tossing it all in Merkel's lap. But yeah, you're right. She's losing power and her party is being voted out left and right. The reign of Angela Merkel and the CDU is soon to end, and the rise of Hollande and the Parti socialiste is just beginning.
It leaves a pretty good taste in my mouth, actually. Like cool strawberries with a slight dash of sugar...
Germany has not good politicians, almost everybody is either politically correct or incompetent. It will be not better after Merkel get voted out, unimportant who will became chancellor. BTW there are almost not any smallest differences between Merkel's CDU, Socialists, Liberals or the Green Party because the entirely political system of Germany looks like a huge Socialist Party with outlets called CDU, SPD, FDP or Greens.
I highly doubt that Merkel and her party are socialists. For one thing, austerity - which she is the queen of - is not socialist.
How about a europe without the national divisions ,no germany ,no france no Italy ,just one unified nonbordered europe one Economy and one Workers Government.see the problem is all these old outmoded and dying national governments ,gee newsflash they are all except germany BANKRUPT! With no recovery in sight at all ,thats what AUSTERITY means ,DEPRESSION not recession is gripping and tearing capitialist Europe apart! Have you noticed? Greece dosen't exist anymore as a economy, and no amount of "bailouts " "Austerity" or hoping for recovery will change that ECONOMIC and Financial Fact ! oh add,Italy ,Spain,Portugual ,Ireland and iceland to that Immediate reality .THEY ARE INSOLVENT ,BANKRUPT ,GONE DOWN THE DRAIN! We are living thru a Depression not a Recession! Oh and the run on the banks in Spain CONTINUES ,unabated. George Soros is about to have a field day! BTW, the latest very quietly done stimulus ,Dollar bill printing ,by the US Federal Reserve yes kids more debt ,indicates that a new GFC is coming and they all know it!
At first the killing of Atom Industry and pushing of Climate Warming lie. Secondly support of socialistic taxation of industry. Thirdly any possible support in outsourcing of working places to China. Fourthly pushing almost all leading non-socialist from her Party. Fifthly gradually transformation of CDU to a Socialist Party.
If anthropogenic climate change were based on real science & judged by governments to be a significant & dangerous problem then thorium based nuclear reactors would already be popping up all around the world instead of the current messing about with taxes & trading schemes. Germany would be the natural management center of a future European Federation as it has shown an ability for not running up huge debts.
EU can't be powerful with some poor country which do not make efforts. That would be better if we kept only the powerful European countries in the UE!
