That might be a significant issue for some consumers and not important to others.

Yet some (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) at the EPA is allowed to make the decision for both of them.

For the 1Mth time, all electronics in the US are required to be constantly upgraded for efficiency, this has been going on for decades to help relieve stain on the power grid, otherwise, brownouts would be occurring on a daily basis, and your electric bill would go through the roof.

Yes, stupid government interference into the private marketplace where it does not belong leads to stupid products like ethanol fuel and CFL light bulbs.

    We get it.

    Oh that's rich.

It is liberal environmentalist who think the world is going to end who are killing coal energy and driving energy costs through to roof.

And you are touting to advantages of CFL's?

Mac, you clearly never think things through and simply parrot out RW slogans.

But these upgrades have never resulted in a banning of a specific type of technology, until now. And it has only been relatively recently that the government has begun to impose "efficiency" mandates on consumer products.

Banning huge fuel guzzling yachts for wealthy individuals would do far more to help the environment than taking away light bulbs from everyone.
Many of these yachts burn 30 gallons of fuel per hour! (but I do not imagine Al Gore would be very happy if he had to give up his recreational boat!)

    On the contrary.

My opinions are well thought out.

They have to be considering the massive bombardment of liberal propaganda everyone goes through during ther lives.

It's so much easier to be a liberal and simply go with the flow like you are.

That's actually not entirely true. Many water supplies have been adding chloramine instead of chlorine, which does not boil out so easily. And chlorine can potentially react with traces of organic substances in the water to form mildly carcinogenic chlorinated organic substances, which are much more difficult to remove from water.

I don't doubt it, but I like to filter my water to get rid of a lot of other crap, too. Plus, the difference in the taste of the water, and coffee, tea and everything else is SO much better. The filter unit and its filter costs quite a bit, but it's still a lot less than bottled water. Cheers!

Back on CFL's for a minute, today's CFL bulbs supposedly no longer contain toxic chemicals that can turn your house into a roped-off Hazmat Zone if one of the things breaks on the floor, but I don't like the quality of light they emit, preferring instead the warmth of incandescent light instead.

This is so important, being no incandescent bulb ever got hot and started a fire. They run cool you know, as opposed to those blazing hot CFLs.

Other than in every grocery store, hardware store and department store, you can't find them at all. It's an outrage. And clearly a conspiracy. Dang liberals, forcing me to buy better bulbs that give off better light. Just like they forced me to buy a truck that got twice the mileage of the old truck. I'll hate the liberals forever for that.

You can get 'em in red, so what's yer problem?

Honestly, i change a lot of light bulbs in my day to day work, and i'd much rather have a bulb uses 13watts of power to power 60watts of light, for a cheaper price, then the regular stuff.

anyway, LEDs are the way of the future anyway.

There are different reasons to prefer one type of bulb over another.

Too many reasons for you and Obama to include them allin your equation when making personal decisions for the rest of us.

Conservatives say let the market decide and tell the government bureocrats to take a hike.

Its difficult to imagine, aside from various soot hydrocarbons and lung irritating combustion byproducts that are emitted by that oil along you and your clothes with smelling like fish, exactly how much mercury you would exposed to from the burning whale fat exposed because of power plant coal usage!! How do you think tuna get mercury?

    Breath deep!

There have been MANY DECADES of local, state and federal standards requirements, zoning laws, importation standards and rules and regulations on products of ALL kinds!

Which have saved BILLIONS of kw hours of energy use and costs, along with reduced fires, and other positive benefits.

The energy savings laws for computers ALONE have meant the USA has built many fewer power pants, and burned less coal and oil.

Imagine the number of oil wells needed to produce 55 billion barrels of oil!

Horsefeathers. I use Rough Service bulbs in my garage...they emit more heat & less light for the power consumed (the protective coating reduces light output), but they are widely available. I got mine at Wal-Mart. Home Depot, Lowe's, Tractor Supply, and any hardware store, lumberyard, or electrical supply store will have them.

Halogen bulbs ARE widely available in stores...I saw them at CVS a while back. They are also available at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and every supermarket I have been in lately.

Are you keeping your horde of bulbs next to the stockpile of manual typewriters, Beta VCR's, rotary-dial phones, and disco 8-tracks?

check out the prices of the Gorebulbs which can be used with dimmers. Lots of homes have dimmers and unless you drop serious coin the Gorebulbs can't be dimmed

I replaced all my incandescent bulbs with CFL years ago, just because they seem to last so much longer. Hate changing light bulbs almost as much as going to the grocery store. (shudder)

Why is this a concern? In all my childhood, I do not remember breaking a single light bulb in the house.

Do YOU allow your kids to EAT the light bulbs or something?

I don't have any kids, if I did and they turned out like the libs on this forum, I'd drown 'em in a pail of water.
