    There's probably another 20% that are gay Christian, Republicans that are in the closet and hate themselves...until they get caught., then they go to the 'turn straight' ministry at thier local Evangelical Church and pretend that it worked.

    Guess you missed the point. You can't perform a reliable survey of the gay population because most gays are closeted out of fear of bigots.

    The reason as to why gay rights, abortion etc. etc. receive so much attention in the media and by extension here is due to the fact that it is the perfect wedge issue. Given that the economic ideologies of the two ruling parties are incredibly similar (despite rhetoric to the contrary) means that the parties must use these wedge issues to disinguish themselves from each other and to garner votes. Hence you have all this talk of "values" in the presidental campaign and a skirting of issues. The word "values" only means what you want it to mean. The media tends to focus on these issues as they are easy to talk about (as opposed to the finer points of a budget) and they get heated enough to get high ratings (i.e. sensationalism).

    100% of the US population does not have "freedom and liberty", we all have some types of freedom and liberty in different and varying degrees.

    Do I have the liberty to smoke pot in my home? No.

    Unless all inalienable rights of the individual are returned we will never have equality or liberty.

    That is a LOT of people in America alone. They should have equal rights and protections period.

    It is up to you to filter the data coming into your mind. We can ignore many things, if we truly aren't interested/concerned. I agree that if you aren't interested, you should ignore the topic.

    I think that's a poor example. By extension, you could have asked whether you have the freedom and liberty to sacrifice your children to your God. Crimes are one thing, granting access to all the protections of law is wholly another.

    What same sex marriage equality is all about is granting the freedom and liberty to enter a marriage contract with another non-related adult in order to enjoy all the protections and freedoms granted under that marriage contract.

    As homosexuality is not a crime, denying those freedoms and liberties amounts to legal exclusion based on immutable factors. And that's not the variety of freedom Americans are accustomed to.

    The marriage license is the contract document that makes a marriage a legal entity in the eyes of the state. The discussion of different forms of marriage (the rite of marriage, the sanctification of marriage as performed by the church) are not pertinent to a political discussion.
