http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/315765/crack-hotels-dnc-john-fund In another poor descision by the DNC, Deciding to hold thier convention in a small city that boast high unemployment, empty strip malls, tatto shops on ever corner, Delegates and journalists are horrified by the awful cheap rundown hotels in the area. Good job dems, make sure you punish your own people just to pander to a city that already voted for you...
Pandering to their base you say? Charlotte is quite the opposite of that no matter what your article says. Maricopa County is a long way away from the post-industrial world of the east coast. In reality, yes there are bad parts of Charlotte but at the same time the city is a leading producer of software and hosts a whole array of different 'labor components' in the IT industry but I digress. My main point with Charlotte here is that while it may appear Democrat in the metro area the reality of North Carolina (and all of the various residential towns that complete the city) is a swing state and has very strong conservative tendencies (ya know, from all the 'American Revolution' stuff). It is very logical that the Democrats would choose to have the convention there much like the GOP chose to pander to its base by hosting theirs in Tampa. Putting delegates in slum hotels? I would rather that than putting them in 5 star premium hotels, I mean, they've got to live like they were on a household budget right? I don't see what the big problem here is.....
Yeah, sadly the Democrats aren't dancing on the strings of Billionaire fat cats "investing" in a President! The budget is a little tighter, and the purpose of the convention is to do the BUSINESS of the party, not to do funny business at 5-star hotels on unlimited tax deductible lobbyist-paid expense accounts.
From that "article" that you linked: "Some of the scarcity of good hotels is due to Charlotte’s relatively small size. It is the least populous city to host a national convention since the GOP held theirs in New Orleans in 1988, and the Big Easy had lots of hotels because of its popularity with tourists." Population of Charlotte NC: 731,000 Population of Tampa, FL: 346,00 RNC 2008: St. Paul, MN: 288,000 DNC 2008: Denver, CO: 620,000 DNC 2004: Boston, MA: 625,000 These are all populations as of this year so their pops were probably a bit lower. So, yeah... the credibility of that article is seriously lacking.
Your article infers that the DNC paid for those accomodations. So what's the press complaining about? It was a freebie. Don't like it, go out and pay for your room somewhere else.
I was wondering the same thing. Turns out that your suspicion is correct: http://2012.democratic-convention.org/Delegates.php Wow, the right is getting desperate. A bunch of these disinformation threads are popping up here on PF from various right-wing sources. So many lies, so little time.
