I am watching a show on "Investigative Discovery", which is a series of murders that were caught. In this one, they find a woman with a 5 week old fetus and call it a double homicide. WTF???
What state? In some states, causing the death of a fetus in the act of assaulting a pregnant woman is homicide according recently passed laws.
That logic doesn't mean abortion should be illegal. You could use the same logic to say that fetuses shouldn't be considered murdered.
The reason why it is considered a double murder is it is assumed as a woman is going to bring the baby into the world. That has to be assumed- because even a woman who says she is going to have an abortion does not have to.
Depends on the jurisdiction. Some states have created "foetus murder". It goes against both common law and common sense but politicians are always making bad law in populist reactions.
only the mother has the right to decide to have or not have a baby, it should be a felony for anyone to force them to have or not have a baby
What if the criminal just assaults the pregnant woman, causing the fetus to be terminated? If he can prove that the woman was absolutely for certain going to get an abortion, can he still be sentenced for murder?
if there is no birth certificate, there can be no death certificate imo, the crime is assaulting a pregnant women which should be a crime all it's own with a much higher sentence
I met a woman the other day who had an abortion. She was remiss and wish she had not done it. She told me that as a teen she had felt forced to have an abortion and to choose a career path and now she feels stuck in that career path. Sad.
I know, it's silly for a foetus to be treated as a life when it's killed by someone other than the mother, but otherwise not treated as a life. I don't like that inconsistency of the law. However, I do not see this as a basis for arguing against abortion. A zygote or embryo is not yet a developed human, and women do need to have power over their own bodies. It is no one's place to force a woman to carry a baby to term.
It's not as if these fetuses just magically start growing in the womb out of nowhere, you know. A woman who gets herself pregnant has made choices that led up to the event. Are you saying that, even if the woman has only herself to blame for her pregnancy, and even if the fetus is a human life, it is still perfectly fine and acceptable if the woman wants to abort her unborn baby?
OOOOOOOH......"A woman who gets herself pregnant"......."the woman has only herself to blame for her pregnancy".... These women should not abort, they should make themselves available for study by the scientific community. But it is fine and acceptable if a woman who gets pregnant in the regular way wants to abort her "unborn baby" even IF "the fetus is a human life.
I get it. So it isn't okay for a woman who goes to a sperm bank to get an abortion is what you are saying. I do not agree. It is irrational for a woman who goes to a sperm bank to have a baby to get an abortion. That does not mean I can force my opinion over the events in her life.
A fetus is not necessarily a living human. Certainly not in the early stages of pregnancy. It is no suprise that stupid people make stupid laws.
This is kind of a silly generalization given that the US scores very low among industrialized nations in reading comprehension.
A woman who gets herself pregnant has made choices that led up to the event. Not always, my short-sighted friend. Plus, people don't always make the best choices. Don't be a foolish absolutist - consider the facts here.. Is a foetus a human life? Yes and no. I don't like this simplistic 'yes or no' dichotomous definition. At various stages, it is more or less developed towards being something we would recognise as human. At some point it becomes a feeling, thinking being, and at some point again it becomes capable of surviving in the outside world, first with and then without rather intensive care by adults, at least assuming it makes it that far naturally. Many die in the womb of natural causes.. Are you going to argue that something too small to be seen by the naked eye is a human life and must be protected at all costs, even if it's being carried by a woman who conceived it by rape or incest? It doesn't have a brain yet, ergo no mind, no feelings, nothing. It's just growing cells in the beginning and for many weeks afterwards. It takes many weeks before it has anything resembling thoughts and feelings, and I think that is what matters where the morality of abortion is concerned. Late-term abortion destroys what is essentially a baby, and so I view such an aboriton as infanticide within the womb, ALTHOUGH there may end up being reasons to perform an abortion even then. That's generally a medical issue between a woman and her doctor, and I think people tend to handle that pretty sensibly. A rape victim isn't likely to carry a baby to late term before deciding to get an abortion, after all.
Like every other Country .. no need to characterize a whole nation due to the actions and comments of a few idiots in the crowd.
