Agreed but don't forget the SSI welfare, that gives money to people who don't work not just the working poor, and its easy to get on disability since we could just look at the unemployment rate being lowered to 7.9 percent showing so many people dropping out of the workforce to get on social security welfare.

So the GOP wants to reduce all types of welfare, and privatize social security, so that the poor have a harder time getting any government money.

The part of what you just said and that I highlighted explains the entire difference between Democrats and Republicans regarding blacks. Do you realize how condescending and parental that sounds......and you are talking about an entire group of adults. So, let's analyze this. How many decades have the blacks been in the Democrat camp....voting for them in exchange for "getting taken care of?" And where are they? As you just stated....still the working poor who "need" safety nets. That is real racism......believing that an entire race needs these white Democrats who insist they must be taken care of because they are too stupid to do it themselves. NO. Republicans want blacks and any other minority to be just as successful in life as we are...or we are striving to be. IMO, they'd be much further along...and not be as a group, "the working poor" if only they had not stayed in that Democrat camp for so many decades.

He's a classy guy. Now....it's Obama turn. We'll see just how classy he is....we'll see if he reaches out to 1/2 of the citizens and the leaders of the other party as a statesman would do. Not just in words, but in actions. Not saying, "I won and elections have consequences." But really rolling up his sleeves and INCLUDING THEM....working WITH them to come up with the solutions. Letting them be a part of the planning......and using their ideas.

It's a nice dream, but I won't hold my breath.

This is where I must disagree, its not just the blacks and Latinos, its the poor whites to that are getting taken care of by the government so it is not really racist at all.

I understand there is a certain pride of people, that is shameful to ask for government help, but insisting that the poor are too *ignorant* not stupid to do it themselves is factual. If the poor were able to do it themselves, they would have been by all means Republicans today. But they aren't able to get rich, they are disabled because of their circumstances of poverty, like poor schooling, and broken homes. And that is not their faults, its the whole system designed to oppress them.

Thanks to all the immature leftist losers in this country. Instead of being mature adults about serious issues in our country...now we have the celebrity-in chief for another 4yrs...if we make it that long. Saddest day in my entire life. I'm done.

No, it's a clear-eyed appreciation of their reality. You can't have a fantasyland view of a group and have any hope of understanding what makes them tick.

I'm not suggesting "taking care of them." I have no interest in perpetuating poverty. I'm saying you have to understand their concerns and their situation before you can figure out what moves them.

Then maybe the GOP and Democrats can work together on anti-poverty programs that actually work.

Well we have to remember that some people want to live on welfare, and that is not perpetuating poverty. Look at Europe, their welfare programs are designed to give their poor the liberty of not working.

So it's not exactly perpetuating poverty, to allow people to live on welfare in my opinion. This is something Democrats are willing to consider, Republicans not so much.

Good God! Go live somewhere else! You are the problem with this country...certainly not the solution. We are done as a country and it seems you are more than happy to hear that. You have destroyed any hope for America...for Americans and for immigrants...you have no clue as what you have done. Pathetic.

Take a look at the composition of Congress. You will see that blacks aren't just in the camp, they are helping run it. Look a the Congressional Congress, want to take a guess which party has the overwhelming number of minorities?

So please, put away the faux right-wing race card.

It is amazing to me that Americans are willing to settle for mediocrity and failure, and worse, willing to vote for it. Obama has increased the deficit, he is about to weaken the military, he has overseen two credit downgrades, he has made a mockery of family values and religious freedom, and with a democratic senate he will subordinate us even more than we already are to the UN, he assures that Iran will get a nuclear weapon in short order, he has insured that Israel is more isolated and vulnerable to their enemies both in their region and within their borders, he has insured that the tyranny of the Muslim brotherhood will become entrenched and more unified across the region of the middle east, he has ensured that China will continue to expand their economic expansion through unfair trade practices and weaken us, in addition to the military, economically geopolitically globally as they out compete us educationally and economically and increasingly militarily. He has secured a Mexican presence within our borders that will lead to increased tensions with Mexico as their drug cartels increasingly control our border regions, he has insured that we will be dependant on foreign oil and at the mercy of our enemies, he has insured that Russia will re-emerge as a threat to its European and Asian neighbors as he weakens America's influence and leadership in NATO. Gloat in your victory, but America has become just another nation now, we are no longer a leader in the world at anything.

Are you serious????? It is the democrats that keep people in poverty! On purpose! It is a machine....they keep millions in cities impoverished and dependent...then they churn Them out in buses to vote for the democrat so that the completely destroy the chances for the hard working republican counties to ever win elections...it's all a plan, and apparently it works....aren't you proud? Dems are not interested in helping the poor become wealthier...are you kidding me? They are the ones who have made them poor to begin with!!!!

No reason for neo-cons to be amazed. I told them that they were going to lose because they are completely out of touch with the country and with reality.

Another conservative who can't disguise his naked contempt for his fellow Americans.

Your fever dream of Obama as a socialist and America as a land of "takers" has always been pure paranoid fantasy. Now would be a good time to let go of it and return to grounded reality.

All you saw and read was that? Geesh, Obama voters. Utterly clueless. I think that ultimately you will regret your vote today, I hope that Obama voters are smart enough to recognize disaster when they see it. I'm an optimist.

The President is a socialist, he campaigned in 08 on redistribution of wealth. That is the definition of socialism, however there is nothing wrong with that.
