Yes, embrace open borders immigration, demographic replacement, and the third worlding of America if you want to win another election. Sounds like a great strategy for America.

What kind of immigration reform are we talking about here exactly? What is this immigration reform that hispanics want? What kind of immigration reform do the Democrats want?

I'm honestly very fearful because I know how liberals are and I absolutely do not trust them on things like immigration because they by and large believe in an open borders policy (meaning anyone from anywhere in the world can come and go freely in the U.S. and live here when they want no questions asked, meaning theoretically every human being on the face of the planet could just pack their bags and come live here leaving the rest of the dry land on earth completely uninhabitated by humans)

I'm talking about trivialities, such as promoting federal regulation of gay marriage, federal ban on gays serving in the military, federal ban on pot, anti-evolution stances and the overuse of religious rhetoric (thereby alienating atheists and nonreligious who might otherwise vote conservative).

Those really aren't "major issues" that affect this country, like our debt and spending, and issues like gay marriage, pot, etc should be left up to the states - however they're hyper-emotional issues which will turn off many voters in droves, and which Dems can use to their advantage. A Christian Republican who openly denounces the theory of evolution will be branded as unelectable by the media for example - even if his view on evolution has nothing whatsoever to do with his view on his economic policies. He'll be branded as a "religious nut" and that's all the casual voter will bother to care about. They'll vote Democrat just because they perceive the other guy as some "uneducated religious hick".

IIRC you said you're agnostic, so my guess is issues like whether or not creationism is taught in schools, or whether or not America is a "Christian nation" aren't that relevant to you, versus issues related to spending and the economy.

Actually, Romney won Texas by 54% to 41%, not quite an 80% margin. Hispanics make up more than 50% of the population of Texas and most of them are not old enough to vote yet, but enough will be by 2016 to swing Texas permanently into the blue. Not to even mention all the liberals flocking into Austin for those high tech jobs and the military, which swung heavily for Obama.

I say embrace it only if it enables the country to have a competitive edge in science and technology. Highly skilled and highly educated immigrants should flow into the country like water flows through the faucet.

On a grim note, your sarcasm is self-detrimental, unless your ancestors are Native Americans. If that's the case ask for your nation back and start kicking people out in the order that they came in: begin with the whites.

The power of it has diminished or ended. Those extremists and racists skating the edge of reasonableness are defeating themselves; it's evident... even in accordance with the results of yesterday's election.

As I said, Texas has been almost 50% hispanic for decades now. To assume it'll magically change in 4 years is absurd.

Texas will not go blue in 2016.

Hispanics want redistribution from those evil gringos. The Democrat Party is their homie, and I don't see that changing no matter how much the Republicans pander.

If the key to winning elections is to pander to a bunch of trashy 3rd worlders, this country is (*)(*)(*)(*)ed no matter which way we slice it.

If they shed the religious right, I would be inclined to jump on board with the republicans.

Minority HUMAN beings are not fools. The Republican Party has sh__ for a relationship with minorities. The only minority they (really) care about is the 1% of income earners. :(

The Republican Party clamors for money and power. That is obvious.

Not in 2016 no, however like you said yourself as an atheist Republican, they're going to need to drop much of the religious social rhetoric if they want to stay modern - in maybe 15-20 years once most of the "grandparent" generation dies off, I can see them going blue if they're still making things like evolution denial and gay marriage a hugely vocal issue.

America is the only 1st world nation where the "conservative" party is perceived as the "religious hillbilly" party. Conservative parties in nearly every European country are smart enough to keep their members' religious views as distant from their party platform as possible - we need to take that route too.

Well, if they scrap the GOP and re-evaluate what they stand for. Go back to old-school Republican principles and leave the religious right out of it. I think they should approach Colin Powell and Meghan McCain and ask if they will help establish the new look of the Republican Party.

The population of hispanics in Texas may not have changed much but the number who can and do vote has grown considerably over the past few decades and will continue to grow. There are also still a lot of white democrats in Texas, between them and the blacks and hispanics and everyone else the republicans hate on, they will outnumber republicans sooner than later.

People used to say that Orange County California would never go blue but they were in denial about the reality of changing demographics, just like you are about Texas.

Isn't that the truth! I've even heard some go as far as to say that working a government job or working on a government contract is a hand out or welfare! I mean people take a job or a WORK assignment in good faith, work entire careers, base private businesses on it and these wing nuts consider it a hand out.

Repbulicans will have the next president only on one condition>

And that is if the US economy is booming in 2016, and the stock market crashes where the DOW goes below 7000. that is the only way a republican will be president in 2016.

Why, because the electoral college will decide, and they are wealthy people. And when they make a lot of money, and the government has a lot of money, they will want some more of it, and the spending will escalate to epic proportions.

Most important, the treasuray bond and municiple bond markets will inflate to record levels. It will be like the housing bust. And it will come crashing down and prior to the crash, the mega rich will have cashed in and this sudden cash out by all the wealthy will cause the economy to collapse. Again.

And all that money the rich pulled out will be invested back into defense spending for the war in Iran and Syria.

But, I highly doubt the economy will be that good in 2016, but you can bet the mega rich will be doing most excellent, and that is all that's needed for them to cash out and re-invest for mega buck of 2 more 10 year wars.

What? too much math?. If you don't understand it don't even try to comment with ignorance.

Maybe if you Republicans stopped being primitive social conservative d-bags we independents would lean your way. But when you keep electing old, scared, white, creationists it gives us no reason to think you guys understand the modern world.
