You seriously need to ask this question, this is common knowledge.
    http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/09/politics/obama-fiscal-cliff/index.html
"I've already signed a trillion dollars' worth of spending cuts. I intend to do more, but if we're serious about the deficit, we also have to ask the wealthiest Americans to go back to the rates that they paid when Bill Clinton was in office," Obama said last week on the campaign trail.

No never anything drastic, always in small steps, otherwise you will break the system. It cannot take a massive uprooting all at once, but slow changes are much more readily absorbed.

This is only one part. We need to look at sales tax deductions, charitable decutions, payroll taxes, and income tax rates amongst many others.

Obama does. That's why he set the limit there.

I'm referring, of course, to the taxes that will hit the Middle Class once Obamacare goes into effect. Did you not know about them? We passed it, so we already know what's in it by now.

We are not in disagreement on that, seriously.

But those small changes can be, and should be applied across the board in my opinion (thus my initial post, below).

Yep, because they are poor. They're lazy underachievers and degenerates. You have money and they want it. Give it to them and maybe they won't riot.

It is good of course! And it is FAIR, because, based on the current tax code, your statement is actually missleading.

EVERYONE (100% of tax payers!) who pays tax would bemefit from an extension of the Bush tax cuts for the first $250,000 of income!

So, even if those who make more than $250,000 will see their tax bill increse slightly, it will increase ONLY on income OVER 250,000!

I have absolutely no heartburn with that, as long as it is slow steps.

Of course. Wouldn't want everyone to suffer in a socialist bread line too quickly after Obama's reelection now would we?

Correct! AND even those who make more than the $250,000 will only see an increase on their adjusted income OVER the $250,000 dollars!

    It's a great move!

    Yep! I think it's wonderful!

But, don't cry! Look at the bright side: the first $250,000 of your adjusted income will still be taxed at the lower rate!

I would say that is very fair!

    Thanks Mr. President!

    So what?
You do realize that, if those "two software engineers" make, let's say $300,000of adjusted income together, the tax hike for them would be 4.5% of $50,000, not of $300,000,

So, their additional tax bill would be less than $2,500 a year. . .

And if the Republican doesn't compromise, the tax rate of EVERYONE will go up . . .and there would be even more need for tax increase that would probably affect them even more!

So, maybe the Republican can continue to encourage the higher income to play victims. . .but it would only mean they are cutting their nose to spite their face!

    Not smart!

Which taxes are you referring to? The penalty for not having insurance?

Lol. Just because I'm in college doesn't mean I don't have a job. How do you think I pay for school/rent/bills? Financial aid only goes so far.

The bush tax cuts will only expire if the republicans are still unwilling to compromise.

cutting a "tax cut" is a spending cut, as tax cuts cost America money, if tax cuts were free we could give everyone a 100% tax cut

Hopefully you are right, but that isn't what is also at stake. You have to look at payroll, sales tax, charity etc plus income.

So I am not seeeing what you are saying

The rich declared war on the middle and working classes 30 years ago. Through that whole period we have seen wealth flowing upward and people in the lower and middle classes losing ground in terms of their living standards. America is supposed to be better then this.

I don't know if they're rich, but if they're earning $250k they're not middle class. Have you thought this through?

    $4 billion of $60 billion is $6.7, that's if the fraud is only $60 billion. If it's $90 billion then it's 4.4%

Between just those three waste, fraud and abuses of the taxpayers there is near $100 Billion dollars. How anyone with a straight face say we need to raise taxes while so much of that crap goes on is beyond me.

Libs, if you paid a contractor to build you a patio deck, he builds half and uses the rest of your money to go a casino. When he loses what you gave him and ask for more money to finish the job, do you give him more or not? Yes or no with explanation.

The Supreme Court allowed it only as a tax, sorry.
