Why is abortion such a big deal in the Christian world?

I could never really understand why abortion is anybody else's business but the woman's and her doctor's.
Why does religion claim the right to intervene into this private affair and decision? And why do specifically Christians have a problem?

The Muslims usually don't. They believe that nobody is more powerful than God. So if God wants you to have a child no amount of condoms or abortions will change that. I wonder if some Christians actually believe that a doctor is more powerful than God.

They want their community to grow. Childhood indoctrination is the easiest way to build a religious community. They're building a future base for funding/voters.

There's political mileage in it amongst the peasants, I suppose.

Look beyond abortion.....their "next target" after that is contraception. Some even admitting it now (See Santorum's interview where he said contraception is "dangerous").

If they get rid of abortion, they go after contraception. Their end-game? Taking away reproductive freedom from women....because all fundy religionists (Taliban Muslim, Rightwing Christian, Orthodox Jewish)?

Are about controlling and dominating women. You just have to look at history or beyond their "soft rhetoric" to see it.

Not only that but the babies go to heaven right? Every time someone has an abortion they are doing that child a favor because now the child won't have to grow up on earth with disease and famine and sickness and violence and murder and war and pain, etc. Instead they get to go straight to free parking, pass go and collect eternal happiness, they get to hang with Jesus and be the safest and happiest anyone could ever be.

We should all be so lucky.

Patriarchy nations of Muslims abort the mother of illegitimate babies while pagan-like matriarchy nations abort the babies.

Christians are in the middle of these murders where either the 8 or 9 young muslims girls are killed, on the one hand, and the 1.2 million babies of young mostly young, never married Western godless women.

Christians decry both of these recourses necessary to maitain Sexual Mores which could be avoided if Christian tenets of sexual prudence were observed.
It is wrong too believe Christians only oppose Western sexual promiscuity evidenced by these milions of annual abortion and condone the 8 murders in Islamic nations.

Christians may not realize why they oppose abortions and loose sexual mores.
Their religious teachings just tell them to believe that premarital sex, divorce, and illegitimacy are evils that are a danger to them, their church, and the society that they could be a part of.

Christians have been raised to oppose sexual promiscuity themselves and by the people they are living with, without specific reasons or arguments to why.
On faith, they believe God knows why and that is the reason he so instructed them.

Thousands of years of opposition to loose sexual mores and promiscuity have passed without the issue of "why" being addressed.
But today, with knowledge and information so abundant and available, we can see that sexual promiscuity destroys families, and broken families destroy great and wonderful societies, one after another.

Christians today can see that their god loves these great and wonderful societies and has taught them in every case NOT to lose everything by being sexually irresponsible.

Nevertheless, people like you who are posting here have previously managed to overcome Christians who had worked for your salvation and their own, as a nation.
History has record the truth about these great fallen societies that people like you here have managed to destroy by ignoring the Christians and the prophecies.

Today, America aborts 1/3 of all pregnancies, delivers 1/3 of the babies to Welfare, unmarried, single mothers, and expects the responsible families that have the remaining 1/3 of the legitimate babies to pay the Welfare and Free Medicare that is growing larger every year.

The question to ask here is why do you people insist on promoting sexual behaviors among the young people which are detrimental to our Nation????

Promoting? No. We're facing reality. The reality is, teenagers are gonna (*)(*)(*)(*). It's what they do, it's what millions of years of evolution has taught them to do, and we can't really do anything about it, unless we want to bring out the chastity belts again. And so it becomes a matter of what we can do to reduce the consequences. We can teach them nothing, demanding that they don't have sex and making it hard for them to get condoms and the pill and whatnot... But that's not going to make them have less sex, it's just going to make them have less safe sex.

Also, @OP: It's because abortion is seen by many Christians as baby murder. At that point, what's not to understand? It doesn't matter whether the position is rational or defensible or not, they see it as killing babies, so no (*)(*)(*)(*) they're against it.

Because abortion is murder. And women who murder their unborn are going to bathe in the fiery lakes for eternity.

But that's your point of view. That doesn't give you the right to intervene in someone else's liberties or decisions.
I just don't understand why this private topic can move into law-discussions, simply because a religious group believes it's bad. There is something called separation of church and state, and neither shouldn't intervene in the other.

It's not my point of view. It's God's point of view, take your issue up with Him.

If a woman cannot keep her legs closed, and wait until marriage to have sex, then she deserves to burn in Hell for following Satan. More and more young people today, especially including slutty women, hate personal responsibility. A college girl hates that she can't have sex without consequences for sex. She wants to SIN, have pleasure without the risk, but the risk does not work out in her favor. She chooses MURDER.

The price of SIN is eternal (*)(*)(*)(*)ation, sorry. That's just the way the objective universe is. God created the universe this way, not me. I follow His rules, the best I can, and I know they're there for a good reason. If something's not broken, don't fix it. And God's Laws are perfect, and never broken anyway.

Abortionists, women who murder their own children will burn in the fiery lakes. I wish it were not so, but, God made the rules. You'd think this would deter young girls from SINNING, but, it doesn't. So they CHOOSE to murder their babies instead.

Okay, it's my point of view that people aren't people, and murder is okay for everyone. How dare you take away my liberties by demanding I stop killing people?

There is an argument to be made here, you're just not making it particularly well. I think that even if abortion is child murder, it can be morally defended by appealing to the rights of the woman to autonomy over her own body.

No it isn't. The only time where god mentions fetuses in the bible is when he mentions the punishment for forcing miscarriage on a woman. It's the same punishment as petty theft, not the same punishment as murder. So it seems that, by god's point of view, abortion probably isn't murder.

Someone is probably still a virgin...

I'm assuming you never eat pork or shellfish, avoid poly-threaded clothing like the plague, and stone blasphemers, people like me, to death? Dude, (*)(*)(*)(*) your belief system. It's an immoral bronze-age myth.

Sure, do you have any contact information, because all the avenue's I've tried have resulted in silence. Can't get that guy on the record for ANYTHING anymore. Apparently, he gave a few interviews thousands of years ago but now mums the word.

It took reading this paragraph for me to remember who you were. Welcome back. Your particular brand of fiery apocolyptic Christianity always provided me with a little passing amusement.

Thank you, it's good to be back.

However, as we all know, if you want to take issues up with God, then you must actually put some WORK, SACRIFICE, and DEDICATION into it. He does seem difficult to reach, sometimes. But isn't it worth it? Isn't morality and ethics WORTH THE PRICE of seeking Him out? It seems more than worth the price to me, which is why I continue to seek Him out, myself.

We can listen and read the prophesies on the wall. The signs are everywhere. What did Christ say? What did Muhammad say? Go look, there are many people who have been seeking God longer than you have. Look, learn, listen, to them.

It's unfortunate that the forum has removed the "dislike" button. It was easier to dismiss dishonest and cruel people last year.......how unfortunate.

Oh, I'm sorry, am I wrong? You worship a malevolent, sadistic tyrant, who apparently gets off on toying with people, springing a gigantic "gotcha" trap that he knows they couldn't have seen coming that leaves them to suffer for all eternity. Want to correct me on the abortion/miscarriage issue? Be my guest!

Please bear in mind folks that Heretic is the same guy who in a thread admitted that he regularly lies to women about his belief to get them to sleep with him while secretly considering them evil behind their backs.

    Classic sociopathic behvaior.

What are you talking about, lying to women???

Just because I have SINNED in the past, doesn't mean I haven't changed, haven't accepted responsibility for my SINS. I have accepted my own SINS.

    Have you accepted YOURS??????????

What sins? I have caused no objective harm to anyone. Under my objective moral code, I have sinned against no one.

I'll gladly take responsibility for my actions, so long as there's responsibility to be had. But I refuse to be held responsible for a con game. If your God exists, he knows that I will not believe in him until he provides evidence of his existence. To hold me responsible for that is ludicrous.

    Wait, seriously?

Oh my god that is awesome.

You forget that 1000 years of Christian monasticism demonstrated a third alternative to condoning 14 years of sex before the adolescents finally marry @ age 26 now, and chasity belts.

The whole sexual Facts-of-Life were repressed and even discussion and mention of the subject was taboo.
=Chilkdren modeled their behavior on that of adults who did not seem to have a sex life, though the growing popukation belied that, of courc=se.

Adults realized that hormones were over powering chemical stimulants difficult enough for teenagers to deal with when they believed premarital d-sex was shmeful and anti-social.
They we taught that marriage was the proper and acceptable institution where people who did want sexual relationships could shamelessly do so.

What transpired between the young girls and young men was illicit sexual favors extended to a special boy who understood if pregnancy were to occur, they would both do the right thing.
It was true thatthe adults cunningly expected the pregnacies and pretended not to notice that somethig was going on between a couple.

But in the end, marriage took place, people pretended not to notice "premature" babies deliver 8 months after the ceremonies, and children were raised by father and mother in storng families which repeated the same secret sex lives over again generation after generation.

That is far different from the gays out in TV and movies, abortion consider not only legal, but an option beyond free condoms.

And that is why it is legal... there is a separation of Church and State... and I say thank God for that. But I also am against abortion because I don't like the idea of killing a fetus. I am not against an abortion in the case of rape, incest, or the life of the mother hangs in the balance.

Yes, but some christians repeatedly commit their sin of Pride and insist that their religious opinions should rule everyone. It's arrogance of the most sickening kind since they're the ones who do the most finger pointing....

How is an abortion due to rape/incest/life of the mother different from any other abortion??????????

There is no difference in the actual abortion. You miss my point. There are different reasons for an abortion, like the case of incest, rape, or life of the mother. All other reasons for an abortion I am against.

Right. And now we have the internet, meaning that nothing, nothing is secret. So how would we implement this idea?

Why? If abortion is murder, it shouldn't matter where the fetus came from.
