I just finished a book called "Savage Continent" and I was so horrified by what happened post WWII by Croatian Nazi's.

Does anyone have any information about these peoples? I haven't heard about them very much but it sure makes Croatians look as bad or worse than German Nazi's, if that's possible.

Well these Croatian Fascists have been around since WWII and haven't received the notoriety that they are horrible bestiality type people whose record for torture and genocide has never gotten the pubicity it deserves.

What these creeps did to innocent people like the Serbs is worse than a disgrace to mankind. I'd like to know how and who has helped to keep this stuff from being publicized to the rest of the world for all these years.

There is nothing special - Many Nazis including their cocksukkers- satellites were killed or convicted. Some Nazis had escaped penalty and reached a great age.

Yes, this is a good question. And sometimes the law enforcement of some western countries very unwillingly investigated the crimes committed by Nazis.

I thought I'd read it all...but Serb cutters, eye goughing, cutting nuts off, the torture, the rape, the mass graves, burying people alive, giving little children caustic material with their food so they could die faster...oh my, it was a hard read and not for the faint-hearted. I think I have become a little faint-hearted.

Jasenovec was the very first proto-type concentration camp and that was run by the Croats in complicity with Nazi's of course. Why isn't this in the history books? Why is history so fraught with myths?

Well each part of the world is reinforcing the history that concerns that part in particular, but Ustashe who managed to escape this area after the ww2 were moving mostly to Southern American countries that were giving them immunity which allowed them to keep on with their lives within those countries. Also, there are significant communities whose ancestors fled from former Yugoslavia for being accused to belong to Ustashe, in US and Mexico as well,
which is perhaps why you should have know more about them.

not to mention that the Vatican helped and colluded with the Nazi's getaway to South America, as well as the goings on with the Croats in the 1990's.

Shame there isn't enough real journalism in this country of ours.

Often a history is just a hostage of political conjuncture. And your country is not an exception. Believe that :)

Every country has it's myths that are handed down and re-written and get history and myth mixed up through the ages.

I guess it depends on whose writing the history, eh?

Read about this guy, famous for winning Ustase competition by slaughtering 1360 people in one day. He was never found, probably lived peacefully somewhere in South America until the end.

They were also unique for having death caps for children.

What kind of nonsense this is, this stuff has been published and is known to the world since the end of WWII at the latest. Only because you live in America where most people would not find the Balkan on a map and don't care a (*)(*)(*)(*) about what happened once upon a time in one little country on the Balkan and you recebtly read a book about it, you dont have to make the conclusion that it was not known to the world until yet. Ante Pavelic was known as a war criminal since decades.

Besides you are decades behind the American and some European propaganda, nowadays they love to paint the Serbs as monsters, emphasizing their war crimes in the early 90ies blinding out others of Croatians, Bosnians and Albanians.

I cannot argue with you. Americans are very ignorant about the balkans and eastern european history and history and geography, in general. They are so busy trying to become the next Bill Gates and the rest kind of don't give a hoot, student wise. We Americans are extremely inward looking.

So what do you consider to be more useful for your society, becoming the next Bill Gates or living in the past to conserve hatred against other peoples because of war crimes? Maybe the American way of dealing with it does not turn out to be worst.

I replied that respectless to you because of discussions we had here before, but it nevertheless is true, the events are well known to Historians in the US as in Europe. But taking the Croatians as the personified evil in the world does not work out quite that nice stuff for Hollywood, because Germany was able to be more of a threat than a mini state with a population like a Mid-West state. And since the 90ies, in which the whole world saw in outcry, what Serbian war criminals were able to, such propaganda about the good Serb and the evil Croatian would not be able to catch anyone.

History is victor's history, so after WWII the Serbian war criminals were heroes, their crimes blinded out, the Croatians on the run, today it is vice versa. So you can spread your hate propaganda against Germans, harvesting a little approval beside massive head shaking, but your trial with Croatians is silly. The Serbs will not manage to fit in the image of the good guy in America, after the civil wars on the Balcan cause in the opposite to WW II not it was their war crimes which were on the table and that of their opponents blinded out.
