Has the government racked up the biggest debt ever in Australia? Yes.
Does that equate to bad economic management? No.
Is it the biggest debt to GDP ever in Australia? No.
Did government spending keep us out of recession in 2008? Yes.

But as we know debt is really measured as a % of GDP and in that light the biggest debt was during the great depression.

The problem in counting only raw money is that $1 does not equal $1 tomorrow.

Media bias does play a part....Murdoch has a 75% stake in Australian media which says it all.

So is the first point as tank said.

Actual people who know about economics (unlike yourself) use debt to GDP as the reference guide.

You however use any tiny bit of information that helps your cause while ignoring the overwhleming evidence against you.

Considering the marathon effort it took to get one simple fact through to ALP supporters, the simple fact that This govt has racked up record debt. It`s not surprising that the they can`t comprehend that there are two major factors that have supported Australia during the GFC. Firstly, there was the nice fat bank balance left by the Howard govt. Whooops! Wayne Swan (alias Jack Russel), made short work of that little nest egg.

Secondly, there is our massive mining industry, idiot proof and indestructible, right? Whooooooops! Wane Swan, the last person in Australia to realise that we wouldn`t be in surplus this year, had a bit of a hickup with the MRRT. Never mind Wayne, lots of yapping, raving, talking absolute rubbish, will distract everyone from the problem. Aussies are all retards you know, particularly Wayne`s followers.

I keep hearing about the massive mining industry. Fact is we're a service economy not a mining economy.

Plus you probably think someone with $1000 today is richer than someone who had $500 50 years ago.

How did the surplus help us in GFC? It provided for the spending which stimulated the economy. If it had been left to the Liberals, the market would have been left to run its course and we all saw what happen to those countries ( in case you didn't know most of them had recessions).

His cause is to point out that fighter planes were really cheap during WW2 since I could buy one with how much money I earn a year, you know, because money doesn't change value ever.

It's quite farcical how howard and Costello spruiked off about the savings in the future fund, which evidently was bulked up by the sale of Australian assets in the range of $70billion dollars. And, somehow forgot about our dilapidated hospitals, schools, roads and did absolutely nothing for nation building. It is quite easy to save money when you procrastinate buying a new fridge, fix the leaky roof and replace the rickety old fence. Most Australians thought that the future fund was establish for all citizens!

Got to say aussiefree2lie, your a stickler for twisting the truth.

I have you on my ignore list now but I can still see your posts if I want.

So when you want a rational debate, I will have never have a problem with it but I am not going to argue with an irrational idiot.
