Unlike you, most Americans, liberals included, hate the idea of paying taxes. No matter what the internationally supported leftists of America do, they'll never convince centrists and rightists that paying higher taxes is a good idea.

At some point down the road, a reckoning is coming and Americans will have to decide between sky high taxes and a burgeoning oppressive economic Statism, or a low tax, low statism, nation.

I honestly beleive that when that "push comes to shove" moment comes, the American People will choose lower taxation and say "(*)(*)(*)(*) the welfare state".

The truth of my words comes in the fact that Democrats agreed to permanently fix the Bush Tax Cuts for virtually everyone. Raising taxes on anyone but the wealthiest is the best way to lose your job as a politician in America.

I don’t think they will. Polls show that most Americans like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and most of the other social programs. There is a reason they are referred to as the 3rd rail of politics.
What they do want is to have their cake and eat it too. Thankfully there are politicians on both sides that assure them it is possible.

Freedom, in a political context, means only freedom from coercion by State Authority. It does not mean freedom from want, freedom from the employer, freedom from disease, or any of the natural laws that allow some men to rise above others in financial or social power. - Ayn Rand

Freedom means much more than this. It also means protection by the State. Protection from foreign invasion, protection of the free market, and protection from being poisoned by the foods we buy. To name a few. These are things we cannot provide for ourselves but the State can and MUST.
