I'm sorry, but this quote exemplifies EVERYTHING wrong with discourse on this forum. You don't like being wrong. That's good. Few people like being wrong. I happen to like it, since it means I get to learn something, but I can understand people finding it to be unpleasant.

Want to know a great way to not be wrong?

    Research things.
    Study.
    Find the facts.

Stubbornly, arrogantly, and aggressively, insisting you're right, when you have no clue, doesn't make you less wrong. It just makes you ignorant and contentious. It makes you more and more wrong, since you'll keep making up more bull(*)(*)(*)(*) to cover your original lack of knowledge (as you did in this case).

    To absolutely everybody:
Start every single discussion, accepting that there is a good chance you're wrong.

Somebody makes a claim that would make you wrong? Find out if it is true. Don't just come up with bull(*)(*)(*)(*) and argue that you're right when you have no clue what you're talking about.

As I said. Few people like being wrong. Rejecting reality doesn't make you less wrong. Change your position to the correct one, and you never have to be wrong about it again.

From a strictly money making standpoint, (which is apparently how you're approaching it) I can follow your logic.

Would you happily advise your child to eat the GMO'd stuff though? How can you be "for" something being sold and consumed when the consumer really has to idea what they're eating SPECIFICALLY? I can take turds and call it food but, would you want to eat it? That's the point. If there are hybrid tomatoes that somehow differ from normal tomatoes, I have the right to know that specifically before I eat it. Under your logic, it's up to the food distributor (the profiteer) to decide what I can eat and whether it's safe or not. That's incorrect. It's fraud...under any logic.

What is a "normal tomato"? There are thousands of hybrids out there.

Perhaps therein lies the problem huh?? I just want to know what ones were "altered" in some artificial way. What that is exactly? That's a good question, since natural content is so far removed from picture, it's probably difficult (at best) to determine at this point. That's probably why the cancer rate is so widespread and why so many "hybrid" cancers are popping up all over the place now with no way to cure them.

Bottom line is if you're going to sell hybrid fish that are something other than what has been naturally found swimming in natural waters, then I want to know about it. Simple labeling it as such would suffice. You could even put t in super fine print (right under the "new and improved" label). So long as it's there for me to read, should I want to. Otherwise, it could be literally ANYTHING that you're selling me, and how would I know? You take that decision away from me, therefore it's fraud, and therefore YOU are liable for it. You want to sell me turds and tell me it's wonderful? Go right ahead, but label it a "turd" where I can determine whether or not I want to eat it. That's the point.

I have nothing against GM products being labeled as such. I simply don't see the need for sensationalizing the issue with misinformation and outright lies like you and Marshall are doing.

As for tomatoes, what exactly is a "normal tomato"? Big Boys? Beefmaster? Early Girls? Which variety is the "normal" one?

Normal would be a tomato that came about through natural processes like cross pollination, and can not be patented due to artificially inserted genes.

What about varieties that came about by mutation? Normal or abnormal?

Also, people have and do patent tomato varieties that came about through natural processes.

What sort of mutation are we talking about? What is an "abnormal" mutation?
I think we all understand that using a retrovirus to insert genes is a little different than the natural processes that people have used for thousands of years.
Patenting food used to be illegal, but I believe you are correct that some varieties of plant are now patented. What I was talking about were specifically inserted proprietary genes. These are the same genes that lead to lawsuits when cross pollination of GM with non GM plants occurs.

Any kind of mutation. I wasn't asking about "abnormal mutations". I was asking if a tomato variety comes about through natural mutation then is it a "normal tomato" or an abnormal tomato.

People should produce, buy, sell and eat all the GM foods they want. As long as they specify it on the label, to give those who don't want to a way to check which products to buy.

Oh haha sorry. Comprehension fail on my part.
It would be normal right? A natural process, even a guided natural process like domestication, is normal. I think the other poster meant normal as a comparative term with GM.

The OP got it exactly backwards. (not the first time)

INTOLERANCE of GM food is based on ignorance and fear-mongering.

    What have we learned?

The pout fish is not a fungus fish. Big deal.

The gene-spliced Salmon is a Pout/Salmon hybrid because of the genes. That is REALITY. I personally want to know if American Alaskan Salmon I'm getting is not salmon, but a Pout/Salmon.

Why is that too much to ask? I LOVE SALMON. American Alaskan Salmon is the - WAS THE - absolute best in the world.

Now what's to happen when its market is undercut? How will they compete? The lesser demand will interfere with supply and they will scale back not able to achieve cost quanity and the price will go up. We will see complete devastation in the natural fish market.

Now I can NEVER EAT SALMON AGAIN. The greedy US refusal to label its food has killed my beloved salmon!!! I can't (*)(*)(*)(*)ing eat it.

Why can't you just support a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing label.

Just got back from grocery shopping. There was salmon there labeled "wild caught salmon". Quit being such a cry-baby.

And again, I never voiced support for not labeling food as GM. I merely took you to task for spreading lies.

Furthermore, if you go to a local grocery store in Kaliningrad and GM salmon isn't labeled as GM then you need to talk to YOUR government about its food policies. The US doesn't make laws in Russia.

Food is labeled без-гмо only by the manufacturer. The good salmon is Alaskan Salmon canned imported from the US. If the US doesn't label the product I will never know. It's illegal to put a label on unless by the manufacturer.

The only way to be sure it's not GMO is to require labeling by law and inspection regulation of the big manufacturers, the ones who can tolerate regulation abuse.

When there's no law that's how you get the wrong oils in olive oil. The different meats in foods. It's an awful mess.

Never before have so many wanted something which the US Government does opposite.

Really if the US would just label this product I would shut up.

If Russia required imported GM foods to be labeled then you wouldn't have to worry about it. You should petition your government for this change. Good luck...lol

What you have forgotten is that up until recently the United States has been the bread basket of the world. That of course has been slipping year by year by our government that has been slowly killing the farming industry. All you havde to do is see what has been done to the dairy industry in the New England area. Hec the USDA has even killed the maple syrup industry.

...and there is the problem is a nutshell. The markets (profiteers) DO NOT WANT hybrid pugsalmon labeled in any way different than the pre-hybrid salmon. I'm good with them selling whatever they want to as well. I just want to SEE how my salmon is different than God intended it to be originally. Seems rather silly that I have to ask for that right, and even sillier that will not be labeled any differently. Government and corporation gone wild.

You would think that the US Government would just side with the common most people, a real for-the-people government.

It's an evil (*)(*)(*)(*)ing aristocracy that's what it is!

Don't you mean Monsanto has been killing the farming industry???

    - - - Updated - - -

It would be nice if we actually had a government FOR the people instead of FOR the corporation. Evil all the way.

Buy some Heirloom tomato seeds like I did. They don't produce as well as the hybrids but you can get seeds that will produce bearing plants season after season. Frankly, I save my heirloom seeds and buy hybrids for actual produce.
