This is part 1, of a 5 part thread I will be running. It will identify the 5 keys to our corruption and disfunction in the evil alliance between business and government in our political system, and rigged banking, trade, Health care, and taxes.

The first here is banking. These images identify the problems, the externailities they cause, and then a way to move forward.

    Thoughts?

    Let them fail...

Get the government out of the equation...

Heard of BitCoin? How many of the federal regulators are regulating it? None.

And the reason why your/their grand ideas about centrally planning banking and money will fail is because the money will buy them off one way or another. JUST LIKE THE ENTIRE EARTH RIGHT NOW. Commoners cannot control power. You cannot grant power. People can only control with their choices.

The US banks are like the dragon "smog" in the new blockbuster Peter Jackson film "The Hobbit". Rolling around in the gold wealth of a nation while hoarding the money amongst themselves and doing nothing to help the nation, taking back more than they loan.

The US Banksters should be forced to suffer. They might take a luxurious train instead of a private jet. They might bathe in a large jacuzzi instead of a swimming pool. They might eat roast pig and vegetables instead of antelope, but the real people of the nation would prosper again.

They only exist in their current form because of the government. They don't have any gold, they have fakery. Fakery that would put them out of business if they were legit, but they aren't legit they are backed by nothing, government promises...worth nothing.

The top banks are not even in competition, they are in support of each other. They support each other in fraud and the US government and central bank are their insurance agencies.

In foreign literature he's called "Смог" (Smog), not "Смаг" (Smaug).

Don't spend what you can't afford. It seems so simple.

Can we please make a concentrated effort not to quote the OP.

    It's too damn big!

On topic: You want to fix the banking problem then you need to throw out the government too. Democracy and capitalism is a dismal failure and our government is evidence for this.

Well first of all, you can't get into debt if you don't freaking spend and/or borrow.

How do you remove the need to regulate insider trading, or other versions of financial fraud?

Unfortunately there's no easy answer for that...

But my point stands. Human minds are too easily corrupted.

This is not a big issue go back to the New Deal regulations and split banks up into Investment Banks and Ordinary Banks with no connection between the two that worked for a long time so why not just do that again.

    Swaps market.

    It destroyed capital requirements.

We have two problems, the first which you address by purposing reinstatement of Glass-Steagal, the seperation of commercial and investment banks, but also there is a need for managing the risk these banks take through capital requirements. The explosion of the swaps market through derivative tools such as a Collateralized Debt Obligation or CDO's, which brought us the GFC, are a new problem that must be addressed.
