    Hallo everybody!

I suppose a little background information would be appropriate. I am a political philosophy student with a penchant for Marxist and radical philosophies. I actually started out in high school as a libertarian and then slowly and reluctantly began a slow progression to the opposite side of the spectrum. None of that means Robert Nozick is not a delight to read. If it is well thought-out and well written philosophy, I enjoy it, even if I do not agree with it. Hell, I absolutely love A Theory of Justice, even though I think John Rawls is wrong. In terms of religion, I am a practicing Roman Catholic. I used to be an atheist, but found God a while back at the end of my college experience. However, I am kind of a heretical-orthodox Catholic in that I am a staunch proponent of queer theory, and disagree with the Vatican on a number of social issues which I do not think are fundamental to the Catholic faith—Joan of Arc was a cross-dresser and we made her a Saint, so....

So that is my ideological dispositions. Personally, I really enjoy writing and reading. There is nothing better than a good story which makes you laugh and cry, and allows you to believe in the power of love. For me, the world is art and poetry, not something that can be encapsulated in the dead hands of scientific-inquiry. Autumn is my favorite season and red/black are my favorite colors.

So that is me. I do not know what else to say.

    Welcome to the forum!

If you continue posting, they will be released as long as you are within the rules. By the sounds of your nice intro, you won't have any problems!

I love books that make me both laugh and cry. I haven't read a good one lately.

Hi JR, you have picked a good time for discussing politics. The gays and lesbians are making waves lately, all good for the springtime, love and romance and the American dream. I got it all figured out, at least I think so anyways.

Welcome John Ryan, Geesh from libertarian to Marxist... from Atheist to catholic; you seem like one heck of an adaptable person. I am sure you will find tons of other differing viewpoints regarding many different subjects here, do you think they will have any effect on your views or do you feel you are a bit more stable in them now?

Thanks for the warm introduction, Jiyuu. It is greatly appreciated.

I do not think any one of us has it all figured out. I am continually humbled by the words of Socrates: εν οιδα οτι ουδεν οιδα[/]i, "I know one thing: that I know nothing," even if he was being sarcastic.

    Merci beaucoup mon ami.

I do believe I am reaching a fairly stable Weltanschauung. However, there is always more to learn from the wisdom of other people. There is always something you have to learn.
