I keep a Mossberg for home defense, anyone else out there use a shotgun? I prefer it to hand guns mostly because of the layout of my home. I personally think the debate of rifle vs shotgun vs handgun is silly for home defense since each weapon has pros and cons.

    Good subject.

For our family we have 2 shotguns, 3 handguns and 2 rifles. It fits our environment and enhances our tactics property wise.

At a minimum we train with our firearms 2 times a month down range. We had the chance to increase our ammo supplies before the ammo shortage and I am thankful.

I would personally rather have a mossberg 500 with pistol grip and a semi auto, However right now I have a 1911 Regent and I like it, Easier to store and maintain, Takes up less space and unless you know I have it harder to find.

Tried to find a scud missile but that darn ban made it harder to find on ebay.... LOL!

I have a plethora of options, and what I grab depends on what time of day it would just so happen to be... If it was at night I'd probably grab my .40 simply because I have a tactical LED light that mounts on the bottom and anyone downrange of the gun would be basically blinded by the LED.... Not to mention I wouldn't have to search for a light.
If it were daytime my mossburg 500 would be first choice loaded with 000 buckshot and outfitted with a cylinder choke for effective spread at close range.

Either way my wife and I both will be yielding fire so I'd suggest any "would be intruders" to pass my house on by....

I keep a pile of stones near the front door and a cellphone near my bed.

(*)(*)(*)(*) and vomit, I heard on the news that will fend them off.
Actually I keep a handgun by the bed.
    Usually a .38 J frame.
    Sometimes a Glock 19 or a S&W 686 3" .357 Mag.
I dont like long guns for that situation, just too long for wield against someone in the same room with you or someone that is already within arms reach.
I will go hand gun anytime.

Here on the 18th floor of a very secure building, I dont see the need, and cant get anything more ferocious than a kitchen knife anyway.

I did have a double barrel short shotgun, defense position to be behind the bed, door locked and a cell phone direct dial to 911.

2 semi-auto handguns by the bed with a Mossberg 500 close by. I am going to get the AR15 setup for "Close Qtrs."
I think it all depends on home layout and comfort with weapon to be used....

None of your damn business! is the correct response.

But as others have stated it really depends on the layout of the house/apartment.

Nothing other than the phones at the moment because they're not necessary. But if I may go into the past somewhat....I and some colleagues actually had to tool up against a very real threat and as we were living in single men's quarters it was necessary to prepare. My choice was a Remington pump-action shotgun, I figured a rifle wouldn't be much use to me in the circumstances. But none of the hardware would have helped us if someone had slid some gelignite under the quarters.

bet you never had to use a rock before, but I have used my sidearm before with complete success.
He survived to get 5 years. A half inch to the left would have left him with a real short life sentence.
Wanna know what he said to the judge? "I didn't think he would really shoot me, your Honor!"
At least I wont die begging or pleading or hiding behind someone else....I'll be damned if that happens

I guess the difference between you and me is that you need a side arm to survive and I don't need one to survive.

Being unarmed is only going to get you so far in a worst case scenario.

That's very true, but to be honest, its not much of a concern for me.

In case young gentlemen from the projects invade our home at night, we keep a platter of cupcakes, cookies and milk available for them in the kitchen. And we'll give them our money and anything else we have. Then we'll invite them to sit down and share a meal, discuss sociology-related stuff and talk about how racist America is.

And when they depart, we'll know we made a sacrifice for racial diversity and multiculturalism. We'll feel atoned, repented and much better about ourselves.

A door, which locks. 5 dogs, which are noisy as all get out. The guns, in the safe, are for being hard on paper targets.

So you are bad enough (and young) man to take on one or two very determined people looking to break in and steal and or do harm? Hand to hand I guess is what you mean by guns in the safe.

Nope. Just rational enough to know that gangbangers have better things to do than bug me at my house; and that thieves try to avoid problems, which 5 dogs barking their heads off is, in spades. I'm safe, and might live longer due to less fear of stuff that's silly to fear.
