Correct; it's about militia vs. standing army. Washington was none too keen on militias, saying, and I quote, it's "leaning on a broken staff." But the Pols in the Continental Congress were of different mind, fearing a standing army and military academy, which G Washington urged, strongly, might lead to control in the hands of the military, leading to a general taking over the joint.

Seems those fears were unfounded, perhaps helped by a civilian being commander-in-chief. And thus G Washington seems to have been right. Have a standing army, and can the militia nonsense, which we have, making the 2A moot, if original intent is the measure, which it is not.

Today, we have the Supremes ruling on it, within the context of the times.

 

If theres any truth to your statement you might consider joining the NRA. That's been exactly their position long before Washington ever politicized it.

Infringing on the rights of lawful gun owners will not decrease criminal ownership of firearms nor will it lessen the crime or violence. If not status quo violence and crime will increase.

 

We were also advised to guard our Liberties closely, not surrender them to the government. that supercedes the Constitution

Well,all I have to say to that is,then the NRA needs to get people in that will actually do the job,because the people in charge of the NRA are severely derelict in their duty.
And here we go again on this Merry-Go-Round,if one is a lawful gun owner,you live peacefully within the laws that are already on the books anyway. Any new laws wouldn't effect that.There should be no reason for anyone to have the gun cocked & ready to shoot 24/7. If one lives in constant paranoia of someone coming to get them or their gun,than I would worry that that person could be our next mass murderer.That is IMP a very unstable individual & perhaps should not have a firearm anywhere near them.

No, I keep insisting that people that don't even know how weapons function have no business voting on or insisting on what they think will help the matter.
