I am a gun owner and avid hunter, especially waterfowl. I am also rather adament about the 2nd amendment not being infringed upon.

That being said, I am not a member of the NRA, and have not been since 1995 and the "jack booted thugs" era. Whilst I appreciate what they claim to stand for, how they opt to champion it is in a fashion I do not agree with, and this convention is a perfect example of what raises my hackles.

What the NRA has done is whore themselves out to be used by idiot politicians as a campaign stomping ground. They seem willing to forgo making an intelligent and compelling argument in order to court favor with celebrities, in this case political celebrities. Rather than putting together an intelligent case for their position they have bleached teeth and right wing pundits giving political speeches.

My uncle is there. It's his first convention in a while, but he's enjoying himself. I expect him to bring back lots of reloading stuff. :) He even left his motorcycle at home so he could load up his truck.

I am going to step out of line and tend to agree with you. The NRA DOES stand at the front line of protecting the second amendment, which provides the provisional bubble of protection of the rest... however... they have hitched themselves to a political party.

This puts what they stand to protect at the whim of party popularity. I don't care which side they are on... they threaten the sovereignty of the fundamental right they protect.

If you can gain political support... that is fine... let them, whomever they are, herald you. Once you herald them... you place my rights on a "side", you endanger them.

    I disapprove... loudly.

I dislike the NRA. They're a special interest group focused on fear-mongering to get money from new members. The bigger the NRA gets, the more money the people running it get, including LaPierre.

I'll never support outright banning guns, but to ignore the fact that the NRA are using scared conservatives to make money the same way the media blows up every minor issue to get ratings is willful ignorance.

You mean the Karl Malone who says gun ownership is a privelage and not a *fundamental, God-given right* like conservative winggunnut wacko-birds actually believe ?

Regarding the use of firearms for self-protection, Malone stated ...

*If I were a gun dealer and somebody walked in and said, ‘I want this for protection,’ I don't know if I would sell it to that person, because that person's only thinking about another confrontation.
The people who get threatened or cut off in their car and think about their guns are the people who don't need a gun …

The big picture is that guns won't protect you.
If someone really wanted to get you, they would.

If you still feel you need that protection, get yourself a bodyguard who knows the rules and knows the laws.
How about you do all of that before you even consider having a gun ?

For you to say you need a gun for your protection ?
My goodness gracious, how are you living that you need that ?

I don't know where all these guys grew up, or who wants to do something to them, but be honest about why you want it.
If you need a gun for that, that's for all the wrong reasons and something bad will come from it.

If I seem a little fired up, I am.
It's a privilege to own a firearm and I take offense when people don't handle their business the right way.”

Malone is an idiot. He would make a great slave. How I am living, is under a government I do not trust to hold my best interest at heart, and I am consistently outvoted. I have voted for one sitting president since I had the opportunity to vote. I get to not agree.

My government does not get to disagree with the constitution. Our nation is what it is because of its laws. The framework of those laws is predicated on my right to revolt against tyranny. I have no intention of revolt... but I reserve the right to.

In other words, Malone was once a proud member of the NRA ... now he realizes it's run by Merchants of Death, wackos and a guy who once ran around with (*)(*)(*)(*) in his pants to avoid Viet Nam ...

    Todays conservatism kind of people.

I have no (*)(*)(*)(*)ing idea who Malone is. I don't care what he thinks he realizes.

I am not a merchant of death. Ford is not a merchant of death. Browning is not a merchant of death. Blizzard is not a merchant of death. Philip Morris is not a merchant of death.

I am my own merchant. I can choose to be imposed upon, or I can choose to not be imposed upon. You would seek to remove that right from me. Give your own rights up.

Nobody wants your rights. You also can't take on the military with your gun. You're simply paying LaPierre to yell at you.

My gun is the only thing I can take on the military with.

A tyrannical government does not seek to destroy my town, it seeks to control it. Production, distribution, economy. Dropping hellfire missiles on major cities serves no purpose. If the government seeks to scorch the (*)(*)(*)(*)ing earth... there is nothing anyone can do.

If, however, they seek to continue and rule the populace... they have to take us on the ground... and as far as technology goes... I will take the US citizen over the government... as most of those contractors that develop this tech are civilians.

Look... I do not require you to get it. No... I cannot fight a nuke... but a nuke cannot service a goal of domination... only destruction. To dominate... we must be unarmed.

If the government had the power and desire to kill you, it would kill you. It has neither.

Your paranoid sense of entitlement is currently getting people killed due to a lack of proper measures to prevent murderers from getting weapons.

The government had the "power" and "desire" to kill Al-Awalki, his son, and Kahn... all US citizens. All they gotta do is call me a terrorist.

    You won't shed a tear.

The government has the power and desire to kill a lot of people who live. That desire does not imply righteousness. Power is a funny thing.

Vote against people who advocate these killings. Don't kill people with guns. People who kill others with guns to spur policy change are given a label. That label is "terrorist", and one just bombed the Boston Marathon due to a disagreement with US policy.

And liberals kill tens of thousands more per year than terrorists... with guns.

So support me in banning liberals from gun ownership.

These incidents are conservatism and tea party folklore .... heros like McVeigh and every other mass-murderer ... you need them as martyrs so you can say why you need guns ...

Oblivious that Palin and Lapierre and all the other winggunnut wackos rabble-rouse you to go out the same way ... as martyrs ...

So you are saying that if you commit a felony you feel you have the right to shoot the police?

    Do I have that right?
