Is he even worth the minimum? I think from a cost benefit standpoint he is worth less the free per hour, he takes up trained worker time. If he is worth less then the minimum, do you think that apprenticeship would be offered ?

I do believe I already addressed every ridiculous argument already in the post you replied to.

"Hahaha, oh my. It's cute seeing conservatives cry about how paying a living wage will bankrupt them.

Very odd definition of bankrupt right wingers have. Apparently bankrupt now means "not making as much profit as they had before".

Not "less money than their competition, allowing their competition to drive them out". Not "not making enough to keep the business running". Not "can't pay for their children to go to college or their house repayments".

But "not making as much profit as we once were". Which in the face of every other business being required to do the same means nothing for that business.

Right wingers have been crying about how paying their workers a liveable wage would destroy them since they had children losing their arms in Victorian machines and coal mines. (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing because people want to be able to have a basic standard of living in response to the work they do that they deserve a living wage for just makes conservatives look stupid."

The most funny part is when right wingers go ape(*)(*)(*)(*) over government providing benefits.
If they do not how your low paid workers will afford to buy capitalist's goods ?
Subsidising the rich makes the poor lazy , best logic ever.

Why don't folks get it. If a person goes through High School, cutting class, smokin weed and goofing off only moving to the next grade because he/she have been in the previous grade way too long. Then they get out into the real world and wouldn't know the difference between their ass and a burnt biscuit if they looked at then both at the same time, why should such and incompetent, inept person make anything more than grunt wages?

If wages across the board increased by 30% wages would take up 110% of income. How do businesses pay out 110% of income, and still keep investors?

That doesn't even count income from the sale of homes, bonds etc... which is higher then corporate income. Corporate income is 10%, and 6% after taxes. How low do you think that number can go with inflation in mind before investors move jobs to other countries which allow them to make a return on their risk?

James A Skinner, CEO of McDonalds made $20.71 million in 2011.

In a 250 Day working year working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, this guy makes roughly $10,355 per hour while paying his employees minimum wage.

Now that is an inflated sense of self worth.

Only selfish, greedy, narrow-minded people consider anyone to be worth less than a living wage. If it is not worth paying a day's decent provisions, the job does not need to be done.

Then tell him to hit the bricks and hire that software designer who just got laid of, but pay him the actual value of labor, which is a decent day's provisions for a decent day's work.

Do not even try to tell me that most of the people out of work right now are out of work because they are worthless. They are out of work because silly bastards who run companies into the ground still get paid more than they are worth.

you are confusing unemployed with value of labor....

I am not saying everyone without a job is worthless. Layoffs happen but that does not change the value of a burger flipper's labor.

it is a job that requires no special skills, no special certifications... your training consists of "watch this video, now I'm going to buddy you up with Steve here..."

if a burger flipper quits, they can be replaced within hours.

if you want a decent day's wages, provide a service that means something. If you want a starter job.... apply at McDonalds. If you keep that starter job into your 30's.... don't complain that you only make starter job salary still, because the job type hasn't magically changed just because you got older

    - - - Updated - - -

I agree.... if McDonalds just quit tomorrow... America/the world would survive. If you rely on that job.... maybe you should have payed closer attention in school.

In my opinion, this also, cannot be an Individual problem since our federal Congress can't seem to justify wartime tax rates for our wars on abstractions. Would this really be an issue if the wealthiest were burdened with wartime tax rates even for a War on Drugs?

Raising the price of min. Wage impacts much more then the price of a Big Mac . Just my educated opinion .
Making money off a good idea is not reason or justification to increase min. Wage . It's a nice appeal to emotion argument though !

Bring down housing, food, and gas, then maybe those inflated self worth things will go away.

Why not subsidize people who can claim to be unemployed, in any at-will employment State through unemployment compensation that clears our poverty guidelines in order to lower our tax burden by drawing participants from more expensive means tested programs, and increase the circulation of money in our money based markets to effect a more efficient economy as a result?

Or, let boards of directors hire CEOs from the third world for twice the work ethic at one third the cost; and even stipulate no corporate welfare bonuses.

I'd imagine if a board could save money on CEO cost and still have same production they would . I'd also imagine people who came from 3rd world countries are CEOs here and there .

Well duh, of course. Wouldn't it be the same as a tax increase. It will immediately get passed on to the consumer. I've seen it written here and other forums just like this.

Nah, I'm all for whatever the market bears, and also the quality of the employee the employer wants. As wages increase, one would tend to think, higher quality workers would apply.

    - - - Updated - - -

Good, then you have evidence of that working. Show it please.

if people want cheap hamburgers then they have to supplement that lower then living wage, be it via a higher min wage so that they can earn a living min wage or welfare for those earning less then a living wage

question is... does society value fast food that much, value min wage jobs that much? I say they do

It does seem ridiculous 1 person at a company can make such obsene amounts of money, but the market is the market. Like I think others said, if CEOs can easily be hired for around $200k and the company still makes a profit, OF COURSE there would be mass firings. That would maximize a whole lot of profit. The CEOs are getting what others agree to pay them. Unless its a private business and the CEO/owner pays himself, its the stock holders/board of directors who determine wages of CEOs, ect. Obviously, not anyone can be CEO of McDonalds. But it would be a great experiment. Hire some kid out of college, give him double of the lowest wage earner at the company, then lower all the rest of the executives there to match and see what happens....since its all about being fair and stuff=)

Is one person seriously worth that much if you really think about it? No. Was Tumblr actually worth over a $billion? But people are paying, so obviously someone thinks so. Become that SOMEONE who gets to determine what someone else is worth and THEN you can change the world. Just don't expect govt to do it. Should Congressmen get to ride in private jets paid for by tax payers? No. They should ride commercial in business class. Some should be in coach unless they want to pay to upgrade out of their own pockets.

The ONLY problem with this line of thinking is that it is eerily similar to Congress having the power to give themselves raises.

Of course those with money are going to take care of those with money. I would imagine if a few minimum wage employees were voting members of the Board of Directors things would play out differently.

And further I imagine if you completely removed the min wage laws and left it to the corporations to pay what they thought was fair lower level employees would make even less than they do now.

There IS a role for government here, the question is is their formula up to date, and clearly it is not.

I believe the problem is a lack of wartime tax rates whenever we prosecute, even a War on Drugs.

If they had to pay wartime tax rates, even for a War on Drugs, would we still have a War on Drugs?
