Concerning our (and others) discussion of the topic of Affirmative Action, the following thoughts come to mind.

The thought that just because an employer "discriminates FOR" an applicant doesn't mean a discrimination "against" and applicant has taken place lives only in the warped semantical world of a lost argument.

If an AA employer considers the applications of 2 people, and chooses to discriminate FOR an applicant (because of the color of his skin), that automatically means that the denied applicant was discriminated "AGAINST" because of the color of his skin.

It linguistically cannot be any other way.

Saying 2 + 2 does not equal 4 doesn't mean that 2 + 2 does not equal 4.

I hope you realize that the free phone thing was begun by the Reagan Administration to help the poor be able to do things like apply for jobs, call the police and fire companies in emergencies and that type of thing. During the Bush administration cell phones were added to the program by a republican controlled congress. The Obama administration has continued the program, but they did not start it nor have they expanded it.

It was not a free phone thing at all. It was running phone lines into rural areas of the country to allow phone access.

Bush was not doling out a million phones. This is only under Obama's term.

It had nothing to do with running rural phone lines. It is a subsidy to allow poor people to access phone service.
