Laos has many beauty pageants, the annual Miss Laos is the big one. Also Nang Pi Mai Lao (Miss Lao New Year) is held in every major city. These girls wear traditional Lao attire, the sinh (Lao silk skirt) which comes down to mid calf and tight around the bum (very elegant and feminine) and tight fitting Lao silk blouses. The girls look absolutely stunning.

Why should a woman pimp her body to show her beauty?

The Belorussian and Hungarian girls are even more beautiful the Laos (no offense to Russian girls :) Why should I and the other 6/7th of the world population be denied the pleasure of observing them the way we want? Why does Islam wants to force it's brand of morality on us? I say, Indonesia should not have fought for the right to hold pageant and then insist, girls be clad. But hey, the company sow it feet to bend over backwards and accomodate Islam once agan...

How is that the case in the OP?

Either way, if the West can force its brand of- well, everything from economics to politics- on the rest of the world, then Islam can force whatever it pleases on you.

For crying out-loud, does anyone force Indonesia to hold the pageant, or even participate in it? Nope. But they wanna have their cake, and eat it too. And once again, the West bends over backwards to accomodate Islam.

    Quality posting!

It's being held in Bali, which is a pretty liberal place. However they are concerned about security threats from the minority idiots.

The pageant can do business in another country.

First of all, we have to make it clear, the difference between Muslim country...aaaand Muslim-Dominated country.
From what I know about Indonesia, Indonesia IS NOT a muslim country. Take a look at the Motto: "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" (Old Javanese) = "Unity in Diversity"

And then take a look at their ideology:

1 Belief in the one and only God,
    2 Just and civilized humanity,
    3 The unity of Indonesia
4 Democracy guided by the inner wisdom in the unanimity arising out of deliberations amongst representatives
5 Social justice for all of the people of Indonesia

point number 4. And take the conclusion by yourself

In Lebanon perhaps with Hizbalsatan watching every move... this might mollify them.

Excellent point. I personally am offended that the participants are allowed to wear any clothes at all.

How can we truly judge them with critical parts of their personality covered up?

The difference between you and me, Jeff (as would be between a conservative and a liberal) is in that I'm trying to adhere to a tradition, while you're trying to wreck every one of them :)

I'm not going to watch it this year if they are going to Muzz it up. I hope all their Western advertisers bail out. Those that do stick with it are getting boycotted.

Look. If muslims don't like bikinis, they need not invite pageant in. Simple, really.

The non-muslim countries should boycott the event.

In a "controversial" statement, the local Ulema Council in Tegal said that Catholic schools are haram, "morally unsound." Politics and local authorities have fuelled the controversy for electoral advantage. However, the families of Muslim students have defended the schools, claiming the right to free choice in matters of education.

For MUI leaders, such schools are "haram", "morally unsound" for young Muslim pupils despite the fact that they score high for the quality of the education they provide and have as a consequence attracted a large number of non-Christians.

In so doing, they have opened up a new fault line after their recent attack against Miss World Contest; this in the world's most populous Muslim nation, where Catholics are a small but significant presence. For the schools, the fatwa is a great blow, coming in the wake of attacks from Muslim extremists and local governments that included threats of closure that were however eventually dropped.

Is Indonesia, largest muslim country in the world, being rapidly "Islamized"? I think so.
