Maybe if Congress wants to pass an immigration bill, the Obama admin could go a long way to help it along. Obama could seal the border up tight. No illegals, no drug smugglers, and no terrorist could cross. Obama could station National Guard outfits on the border and completely close it.

Then-------------when the border is closed absolutely tight, we can talk about what to do about all the illegals already here, and pass an immigration bill.

    Comment?

There's probably a better way to spend the money, but I'm willing to support it if it takes money from the military.

Since the military is being withdrawn from Afganistan, it would be good continued training for them. A win win situation for the country.

But it's not Obamas goal to prevent illegls getting in. The whole point is getting in as many as possible with the intent of them voting Democrat. If it was about protecting the country we wouldn't be having the discussion. The border would be sealed by now.

The interesting thing however is that this is in a manner of speaking a double edged sword for the Your average Latino voter is a social conservative but a fiscal liberal. ie they are staunch Catholics and people for whom the concept of separation of is odd if not anathema.

It's not in the Democratic or Republican agenda to seal the border up tight. It should be: the benefits of illegal immigration are fading and the negatives are piling up fast, but both parties and their sponsors (owners?) are still living in the paradigm created decades ago.

A reasonable compromise would be a sealed border, a complete amnesty, a work permit system that favored applicants with familial sponsors (nephew Juan and niece Anita) and very tough measures applied consistently to employers caught using illegal immigrant labor. Too bad Congress would never go for it; 9 out of 10 Congressman would vote against such a bill.

    Taxcutter says:
If the border were closed air-tight, a "pathway to citizenship" would be irresistible. But Hussein Obama shows not a scintilla of inclination to seal the border.

I don't think amnesty or any political carrot should be needed before they do their job and secure the border. They should already be doing it to their best ability and it would sure make their job securing the border easier if amnesty wasn't even being talked about or considered.
