George! What a noble name! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...name_n_3480231.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009
I don't really care much about the royals, but William seems like a decent young man and his wife is beauty in its most delicate form. Awesome name for the child. I wish them well.
This. They are basically just celebrity movie stars, no reason getting upset over the pat anymore IMO. She really does encompass what natural beautiful is. What a catch.
Yippie, the next generation of British failsafes has arrived! Sure they tell us the Royals are kept around for whatever reason, but we all know its so they have someone to bow and scrape to if things go horribly wrong...
There have been 6 King Georges, one of whom was the current Queen's father (or in other words the new prince's Great great grandfather).
I am happy for them. But, as an American who was freed by our revolution from the Royal family, I see no point in obsessing over the prince who will one day put his pants on one leg at a time just like me. Also, as an American, I have no betters nor lessors. Freedom and liberty and the rule of law before which all men are equal is my enduring legacy.
There have been 6 king Georges. King George V led Britain through WWI and George VI led Britain through WWII.
The most disturbing notion of the entire British Monarchy is the ludicrous notion that Americans should actually care about any of these dim witted people. We fought two wars to be free of monarchy, which is the antithesis of the founding ideal of our country, that all men are created equally. Just how much harm has been perpetrated upon humanity by the thought that some people are just born better than others. Germans were born better than Jews, the Japanese were born better than the Chinese, Whites were born better than blacks. No, the notion that anyone is just superior based on birthright is something that everyone, not just Americans, should reject. Just ignore the Royals! Please! There should be a much better reason to care about these people other than the fact that they were grunted out of a Royal vagina.
I think the reason the Royal Family hasn't been abolished is they provide a cultural grounding for the people of the United Kingdom. They don't have a written constituting document like the United States does, the monarchy serves as the personal embodiment of British history in a way. They have several amazing traditions centering around the Monarchy. The State Opening of Parliament is a neat ceremony from what I've seen of it. Also, the United Kingdom's monarchy has no real power left, they're ceremonial figureheads. They also don't cost the UK citizens much money from what I saw, and even if they cost some money, they likely break even with the tourism generated. Tom Clancy's character John Ryan in Patriot Games said that he wished America had long-lived traditions to remind us of our history, maybe at Fort McHenry after witnessing the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London. I tend to think something like that would be awesome. We only really have one notable example of that, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers at Arlington.
