They only took down the sign after being forced to do so in the face of a protest and boycott.

Imagine how much trouble they could have avoided by taking it down sooner?

This is so funny. So if this xtian couple had a news clipping of a negroe lynching from 1860 would that make it all the more sacrosanct and untouchable?

Because you know, that's like over a 100 years old.

I don't think you understand how discrimination laws work...

I really don't care how they work, I support the concepts of freedom, clearly militant homosexuals do not... Oppressive 'discrimination' laws are nothing more than idiotic attempts at social engineering to one way of thinking, oddly most often supported by those who claim to support diversity, yet in practice try to stamp out anything that doesn't follow their way of thinking...

Wrong, 2 gay people care, that's it. They weren't discriminated against, they were served. So the "law" is irrelevant, unless you can post something to the contrary where a business owner is now not allowed to decorate their business how they want.

This whole thing reminds me of a movie scene. Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing...Sal owns a pizzeria in Brooklyn, He is proud of his Italian Heritage and displays it on the wall, pictures of Joe DiMaggio, Robert Deniro, Al Pacino, etc....a regular customer walks in after years of being a patron at the same pizzeria demands that pictures of black people should be put on the walls....Why?

In another example I know a Desert Storm Vet who came home and upon returning to society decided to open up his own gym, the first thing you saw when you walked in was a huge American Flag, covering one wall. He one day was accosted by someone who was not even a member of his gym to take the flag down because it was representation that went against his religious beliefs, does that person no matter how offended they are have the reight to tell someone how to decorate their business?

    I think not.

Well, you're free to be a bigot or racist but if you put those thoughts into action in the operation of a public business you will be thunked...eventually.

Here it took ten years...heheh. But then again, the town is 3800 people, almost all white xtians.

No, that is all that is named in the article. Sorry but you can not prove that the gay community consists of any more than that, it may, it may not. but without definitive information to say otherwise, it stands at 3 and that's no lie.

I don't like people telling other people that they are evil based on with whom that person sleeps. I also don't see what is the deal with all the "Pride" about being gay? If it is just how you were born then by the same logic it is OK for me to be proud that I'm white, but that is racist. If you can call someone who is "proud to be white" racist then you should be able to call someone who is "proud to be gay" racist too.... So confusing....

LOL- once again- no quote from the article itself.

Quotes would just get in the way of the agenda of the anti-homosexual militants.

You missed my point- or maybe you just can't get it. Assuming we take the newspaper article at face value, this couple never just pointed out the issue to the owners but instead expressed their outrage elsewhere.

I think the lesbian couple handled the whole issue the wrong way.

I really fil to see the problem here.

One of the controls for business behavior is the "free market", and one of the tools of that marketing is word of mouth advertising from the public.

There is NO warning outside that business that it was posting information to indicate gays were sinful or evil or bad or whatever, so part of the public would sit outside and TELL the unsuspecting customers what the business was like!

This is the problem with bigots in public businesses, they love to screw with unsuspecting people.

NOW we have some saying these people publicizing the business practices of a bogot business as "militants are getting out of hand". For what, telling the public what this business had waiting inside?

Why not hang up a "Wanted Dead or Alive" posters to encourage assassination of these "militant gays"

The juvenile "Keep the menu away from the lezzie" farce the managers engaged is a perfect example of what REALLY happens.

    I think both groups did......

After reading more of the situation.... Imo, if someone reads an article on a bulletin board in a public place, if they don't like it - fine - then leave and don't go back. I certainly wouldn't waste my time expressing my 'outrage' to the owner of the restaurant. It's his restaurant and he can do what he pleases w/it........

OTOH, the owner isn't very bright. He owns a restaurant and wants a booming business, I would guess. Word of mouth advertising is the best there is....

Smart small business owners keep their personal tho'ts/beliefs about gays, religion, politics out of their place of business. The way Richter was treated was despicable and uncalled for.....

If the owner keeps on w/this kind of nasty behavior that Richter reveived, his business will go belly-up and he won't have anyone to blame but himself.

But the demands from some on this thread are that the gay people should leave the restaurant, go home and shut up!

And we are still looking for the "force" these "militant gays" supposedly used on this business owner!

Ak47's? Waterboarding? Assassination? I don't even see a mention of maybe guys throwing their purses at the business owner.....

    nope

it's no different than being a Red Sox fan, heading to the men's room and there's a newspaper article posted about the Yankees beating the BoSox
Do you have a snit because there is a factually correct newspaper clipping posted on a bulletin board? That is exactly what these lesbians did.

The fact that this article is ten years old proves that these people should be punished for at least ten years of homo bashing.

So you think its ok to tell the owner to take it down?

Do people of faith no longer have the protections of the constitution?

Don't like the sign, don't agree with the owners position... THEN DON'T (*)(*)(*)(*)ING GO TO THE RESTAURANT.
