In 2013, why is HIV still so prevalent among homosexual men?

Yet the highest numbers of HIV cases are straight women and children...

 

Not here in the US. Men who have sex with men make up the majority of HIV cases. And this is the kind of disinformation that is probably responsible for the prevalence of HIV among men who have sex with men in the US and why the prevalence continues to rise. .

 

So then do some research and tell us all why so many women (straight) have HIV...

And hopefully as a straight male you are always using protection...

 

With the increase of straight people and drug addicts with HIV and STDS, I'd say many heterosexuals are very inept when it comes to safe sex.

Actually I didn't abandon anything. I don't do research for other people. That's for you to look up on your own like an adult.
And HOW are these women getting HIV id n the first place? From husbands and boyfriends that can't use condoms perhaps?
But continue thinking that HIV is a gay only disease and continue to not get tested because you are straight. Then continue wondering how straight people get HIV...

 

Generally irrelevant AND misleading. The reality is that all genders and sexual orientations should be concerned about STD's. In just the past 3 weeks, I supervised a visit for one of my troops to an overseas medical facility, so that he could be treated for multiple STD's he acquired (by NOT using protection).

I didn't judge him or anything, but I certainly DID instill the understanding that he wasn't bullet-proof when it came to sex. A lot of straight guys take risks and catch things; luckily for many it's treatable.

People with nonsensical views such as your own, promote a false sense of security by giving heterosexuals the idea that they don't need to be serious about sexual 'safety'. Yes, there are PLENTY of diseases out here that will eat a person from the crotch... up, whether they be gay or straight.

I think that the reason the number is so high is that there isn't enough - in my opinion - male specific STI prevention education out there. The thing that happens a lot (and I volunteer to do HIV testing) is that these young guys say "Well, I'm not going to get my male partner pregnant" so they think that they can forgo them.

Now, the thing is that I don't know how to address that issue.

 

Agreed- that is precisely the problem. But no one is allowed to talk about issues like this to youth. And none of us older guys want to publicly talk to them about it for fear of being labeled a pedophile or worse. I can tell you right now that there is no way in hell I would ever talk to a gay teen about sex. Just doing that alone could get you into a huge pile of trouble. But here's the real problem:

Parents don't know what to say either, because they simply have no idea how to handle the situation. And many times, they are dealing with the fact that their child just told them they are gay. So they are more worried about themselves than their kid (OMG- what will the neighbors, family think? Are we bad parents?, etc).

Meanwhile, gay teens are left to fend for themselves. And all of us know from being teens ourselves, that teens do not always make the best decisions. Once you take family support out of the picture, it's a recipe for disaster. And that is exactly what is happening right now. No one is there to educate these kids. The parents are too self-involved, and the adult gay community won't risk themselves to help, out of fear.

So where does that leave us?

As for education, I say that is why this society is better off with comprehensive sex education being taught in schools.

 

I know a group of parents at my school were very upset that we didn't have "abstinence only" sexual education. They said that by teaching kids aout safer sex practices that we were apparently "Encouraging them to have sex." My response was "Their genitals are encouraging them to have sex, we're just showing them how to do it without killing themselves."

 

Yep. I have always had some pretty strong values as a man; but the draw of sexual pleasure isn't something most people will be talked-down from.

That's just being honest.

 

It's just simple biology. Of course, some of these parents would call biology "devil science", so I'm sure that wouldn't have been the best argument to present. The thing that is difficult about the idea of teaching young gay men how to stay safe is manifold.

First, you have to consider what the reaction to it would be. Imagine the backlash of having to include all the students in a sex ed class on a discussion of safer practices for male on male unions. Parents would be outraged. So then, you decide to only have the gay guys in there. Well, what about the ones that are in the closet and don't want to have to identify to get the information that they need.

The logistics of spreading the info that is needed is just a headache. One that I hope that smarter minds than mine can solve.

But I suppose that in our society of DEATH where guns aren't a problem, sex is supposed to be pure/straight and war is played-up to be a positive thing... we'll just have to CHANGE before we solve our worst problems. Unfortunately, that will take a few generations.

 

With all the things that kids experience on a daily basis that can kill them, I imagine sex is the last thing that they think would be on that list.

 

For the same reason that women get knocked up.. They get hammered or stoned and do stupid things.

More Hetero-Sexual Women are infected ,and we are talking millions ,followed by Hetero-sexual Males .It is a lie that Hiv is a "gay men's disease" as much as the LGBT ,would like to use it as a social Blackmail, the "H" in Hiv means Human actually![Not homosexual]

Infection rates are on the Increase not because of lack of Knowing but because of better detection Techniques ,and a Generation that is being bought up to attack science .

Good news is that ,the latest Medications are effectively a Cure for Aids ,Living example and proof ,Hello!
